Hmm... automatic shotguns with drum mags, might work. For vehicles i was professing a distributed shotgun based pellet system which allows it to target even low flying drones with radar panels for hemisphere around vehicle coverage.

Yes that was what I was thinking.Hmm... automatic shotguns with drum mags, might work.
> Made a generic 8x8 armoured vehicle; 8m longProblem with what you are proposing is that it wont be able to target low flying drones, flying below system fov. You would need distributed detection and interception system for large vehicles such as armored cars, troop carrier trucks or even all terrain Armados.
Hope such system is able to multi detect and target.> Made a generic 8x8 armoured vehicle; 8m long
> Mounted a Unirobotics RWS with -10° elevation
> Made everything to 1:1 scale
Now let's see where the blind spot would be while shooting low flying drones

Just 12m away from the vehicle.
If a guy manages to sneak 12m away from your vehicle and then launch a FPV then you've much bigger issues to worry about than your RWS's blind spots.
And as for detections, you don't need anything for detection as after few years Active Protections Systems would become staple on armoured platforms and with them, you'll get 4 AESA radars covering almost 360°.

Maybe the aim does not come as accurate.

It's been almost 6 years since multiple firms from multiple nations are offering M230LF with air-burst ammunition on a RWS; some even with AESA radar.
@AnantsHmm... automatic shotguns with drum mags, might work.

Itna!@Anants
if we assume this device is sitting on top of a vehicle ,the barrel has to cover the area of an hemisphere, visualising half a medicine ball positioned on top of vehicle.
three options that come to mind :
- developing a new or adding a shotgun barrel to an existing RCWS.
- multiple barrels covering all directions of the hemisphere, with dedicated electronic striker(if such a thing exists) for each barrel. trigger is controlled by an algo.
- a rotating mechanism for a shotgun barrel to be positioned in the direction of the incoming drone.
Yeah, but we are talking about handling a swarm, and for that M230 type set up with air burst ammo would be a better fit than an APS, in my opinion that is.Itna!
Simply make an anti-UAV "round" for your existing APS launcher. This round would be 3-4x smaller than the standard anti-ATGM APS round and would be pretty much similar to a shotgun shell. A typical APS can have 2x APS and 4x anti-UAV rounds. Everything else (radar, turret, RWS, multi barrel) is already there on the APS

IronFist for example
Well it's considering you already have APS on all your armoured vehicles so why not optimise them too for anti-UAV? If you already have 4x AESA for APS and trainable launchers then it can be the most cost effective and easiest to implement option.Yeah, but we are talking about handling a swarm, and for that M230 type set up with air burst ammo would be a better fit than an APS, in my opinion that is.
I'm not saying don't do that, just that they won't be as effective in handling larger swarms (we ARE to go up against the fucking Chinese of all people after all) as an RCWS would. Or you would have redesign the APS so that it can hold more shots.Well it's considering you already have APS on all your armoured vehicles so why not optimise them too for anti-UAV? Yeah, and apparently the Chinese as well.As for M230 based system then we can a the recent trend has already started to move toward replacing the .50 Cal RWS with a 30mm one; AbramsX, EMBT all of them
