DRDO takes up preliminary study on development of indigenous conventional submarine.
DRDO got a go ahead from defence ministry to carry out a preliminary study to determine the project contours. It is expected to take upto a year after which a formal case will be put up to the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) for project sanction.

What took DRDO so long they should have taken up this project years ago

So drdo (pumpjet and aip) with mdl (primary builder) with design support form france (naval group mist probably)

Im seeing a much much improved indigenous scorpene what are your opinions guys ?
Diesel electric submarines can't employ pumpjets only known example is an Russian kilo class sub and even that was only meant as test bed, pumpjets are only fit for nuclear powered subs.scorpenes have other disadvantages too it's hull is not much wide, so elongating it's hull by further adding a vls section after aip section itself is not much feasible, more or less impossible for something like brahmos capable vls.

P76 will have PUMPJET , pumpjet propulsion has negative effect on range IMO extended endurance of AIP will fill the dent created by pumpjet

P76 being swift & stealth are perfect fit for bay of Bengal and A sea

pumpjets are very silent indeed but are less efficient in genral thats why mostly used in nuclear submarines but then if we are making large displacement comventional submarine around 3000 tonnes then it would make sense

P76 will get design inspiration from p75i winner so p76 might be similar to s80 in terms of displacement, external appearance

S80 sub displacement is around 3000 tonnes
I dont think so we built 6 kalveri class and would order 3 more built to super kalveri standard with aip and all after it we would build on basis of scorpene design add our tech make it indigenous while the p-75i would be used for benchmarking performance that the p-76 should match of surpass

All kalveri are made by mdl too with naval group of france
