Reminds me of an anecdote M.J.Akbar shared in one of his articles long ago. Apparently when the Mongols under Hulegu Khan after having killed the last Abbasid Caliph , was ravaging Baghdad, people distraught by his actions approached Badr al din Lu'lu or Badruddin Lu'lu the ruler / governor of Mosul then, who swore he'd teach the barbaric Mongols a lesson by twisting the ears of Hulegu Khan in person in public, an admonishment , Lu'lu swore the mighty Khan would never forget.
His courtiers were flabbergasted, his own family shattered, his supporters wailed for his safety but more importantly for his sanity but Badruddin Lu'lu was cut from a different cloth. He was determined to bring the Mongols to task for their barabarity but being more than 80 years old, having survived all manner of intrigue in the mediavael Middle East, he knew he couldn't militarily defeat these beasts for the life of him.
But he couldn't let this barabarity go unpunished, not in the eyes of his supporters else he'd lose his standing with them. So off he went with an entourage from Mosul to Baghdad to "teach a lesson to Hulegu Khan by twisting his ears in public. "
After the welcoming ceremony were over in a banquet Hulegu Khan, his courtiers & the Mongols hosted in honor of Badruddin Lu'lu & his party, Lu'lu got up & approached Hulegu Khan. He hinted he wanted Hulegu Khan's ear. Hulegu Khan lent forward & at that very moment, Lu'lu put on the ear rings he got for Hulegu Khan & started feeling his ears gently stretching it , turning & twisting it, all the while looking to his party with a satisfied look on his face of a man who kept his word.
While Trump is no Hulegu Khan, Younus definitely is the Badruddin Lu'lu of our age.
Olhomdulillah!
