BSF walas may shoot some kanglus at some other place in response.

Why is the BSF forced to show this much restraint?

Not too many details publicized as of yet, so some observations based on local media reports,

1. Situation might be similar to that of pak border (where farmers are allowed to use land parcels beyond the fences, often stretching up to the zero line).

2. A group of kanglus crossed the zero line and started cutting crops from this side of the border.

3. Some BSF guys noticed it, beat them up and sent them back (notice how all of this happened beyond the fences).

4. One lone kanglu got a bit too carried away and attacked a jawan with his sickle.

5. Jawan got injured, the rest of the BSF guys turned on the kanglu, beat him up.

6. The injured kanglu is in BSF custody.

Possibly, a rough reconstruction of the sequence of events that followed. Awaiting more details.

Before Murshidabad attacks, Kanglus from the other side crossed to destroy/steal harvest crops from Indian side and poison waters.

"Cutting grass" = stealing crops from our side. This happens frequently along the borders.

We have this guy in custody, hopefully he's returned to kangluland with 10 less fingers.

And BSF needs to update its SOP to authorise shooting any kanglu animal that comes too close.

Per the Swarajya article, BGB is apparently stretched thin and can't keep patrolling everywhere and BSF will keep finding new areas to throw them out. So it looks like this will keep continuing.
