1. Took all the disputed land.

2. Isolated Vietman from other ASEAN nations for 20 yrs.

3. Made Vietnam fought with China for 10 yrs till 1991, and lost all the economic opportunites druing 1980s, 1990s the 1st wave of globallization. Made it poorest of ASEAN.

4. Stop wet dream of Vietnam for unitying Loas, Cambodia into one nation as mini super power in SE.Asia

5. Obtained USA and all western nations' support on economic and tech to China.

That is incorrect, especially for the rank-and-file soldiers and lower-ranking officers, and even those generals who had experience showed extreme timidity and inaction action whenever the situation began to go south.
