> 1994; start work on a futuristic rifle that had a standard 5.56x45mm assault rifle integrated with an advanced air-burst capable semi auto 25mm grenade launcher. Thus begins the XM-29 Objective Individual Combat Weapon program.
> 2004; realise it was a really dumb idea and ditch the program after spending millions of dollars.

> 2005; suddenly realise that the grenade launcher part was infact not that dumb after all and start a program for standalone semi-automatic grenade launcher; XM-25 Counter Defilade Target Engagement System. A semi-auto grenade launcher firing 25mm air-burst rounds.
> 2018; naaaah, it's still dumb. Cancels the whole program after limited series production and even actual deployment in Afghanistan. Millions of dollars again.

> 2023; you know what? The idea of a medium-caliber semi-auto grenade launcher is not that bad. Starts the Precision Grenadier System

How do you think H&K, Sig and others stay functioning? :D make a fool out of the procurement policies thanks to lobbying.

No

The Chinese QLU-11; this big, heavy, pretty much a crew-served thing...

...would be more akin to the cancelled Barrett XM109...

If they had developed a standalone version of the grenade launcher used on their copy of XM29; the QTS-11 then it would have been a Chinese XM25

I think Carl Gustav does same as thease
Just that Carl Gustav is more versatile
(I know thier application is bit different)

A Carl Gustav can't even dream of disabling a radar or SAM launcher at a distance of 1,200m.

Shooting a MBT or even heavy-IFV at 300m with a QLU-11 will just make its crew more pissed at you.

So no; not similar
