Small Arms and Weapons

This model was made to fix the problems, but by that time the design itself was outdated.
And army still didn't believe in OFB( I can understand in this case) for manufacturing.
The most obvious way to resolve issues with the INSAS is to simplify it by :
  • going for a much simpler charging handle (AK style) than the FAL one
  • working on the reinforcement of polymer magazines to reduce failure to feed issues
  • QA by assigning NCOs at the manufacturing level - YOs at the depot level and a Col. rank officer at the factory level as a permanent liaison
  • looking at more successful AK style 5.56x45mm rifles like the Valmet or Galil and try to get the INSAS to be more like them
  • Feedback from troops by manufacturing the updated rifle in batches
These guys looked at the Sig 550, dressed the INSAS like it and called it a day.

The Pakistani 'Bastard' AK 203 - VSK 100-3

Pakistani army and paramilitary forces have been seen using a new AKM derivative made in Belarus is recent years. The Pakistanis have previously attempted license manufacture the AK 103 under the auspices of Russia however the AK 203 deal with India has closed this avenue in 2019.

The sources also said Pakistan had sent in a proposal to buy a consignment of 50,000 AK series of assault rifles in an attempt to deepen military ties with Russia. The sources, however, did not mention the particular model sought by the neighboring country.
They also added that the Russian top leadership has assured India of no such military cooperation with Pakistan – an assurance which came after India raised its concerns with Moscow this year.

This left a vacuum in the 'submachine gun' category of small arms of the Pakistani forces who have been using the Type 56 rifles in some form for over half a century. Pakistan had even produced a semi-official AK 103 copy called the SMG PK 21 with an accuracy of >3.5 MOA and a 400m effective range, however this variant never entered mainstream service.

The Belarussians with the silent blessing of Russia, stepped into the vacuum with their VSK-100 rifle offering which was a 'fork' of the AK 103M/AK 203 in all but name.

VSK-100 assault rifle is produced using parts and know-how, supplied to Belarus by a Russian company VPO Molot. In fact, a VSK-100 assault rifle is a select-fire, military-only modification of the semi-automatic “Vepr” carbine, produced in Russia by VPO Molot for civilian sales.
The VSK-100 assault rifle is manufactured in Republic of Belarus by the “Kidma-tec” Ltd. It was officially adopted by the Ministry of Defense of Belarus in 2021 and is now issued to various units in Belarusian military.

Review of the VSK 100-3 by a serving Pakistan army/police personnel. Key points about the weapon :
  • Full length picatinny rails
  • Upper and lower polymer handguards with picatinny rails at 12'o clock and 6'o clock positions
  • Provision for picatinny rails at 3'o clock and 9'o clock positions like the AK 103 series
  • Improved polymer pistol grip
  • Higher quality recoil spring guide rod
  • Hinged dust cover
  • Vepr style folding stock with cheek riser. (Folding factory stock will NOT accept any AK/Saiga stock because it does not use a standard AK type rear trunnion.)
  • No lightening cuts on gas block or bolt-carrier group (but lighter)
  • 1975 Type 56-2 pattern side adaptor (sights)
  • Izhmash Side-Stamped style steel AK magazines
  • Mostly issued iron sights and sometimes with red dot or Chinese thermal sights

What makes Ak-203s cost 1100 USD? The fit and finish seems to be miles ahead of any other Ak we are using though.Does that include the initial cost of setting up of factory too?

That and Russkies get a cut. Plus some raw materials for the first batch of guns were imported.

theyre using kac1 and colt c8 right now. This will be changed to sig mcx 5.56, 300blk and kac1 in the future
Oh good choice.
SEK in Germany had SIG MCX as primary, and now they have or are in the process or transitioning to HK 433 as primary. MP5s use will end and MCXs will be armoury princess/training/backup weapons.

German spec ops went from G36A2 to HK 433 in 20 years. We're still operating Tavors. In fact German spec ops changed their primary intermediate rifle 5 times in the past 20 years. 1743454269235.webp

Infact G95 is now going to be the standard infantry weapon starting 2026, reserves will move to G36k and Mg4/5s, and Heimatschutz companies will retain older G36A2 models and MG3/MG4s.
SF will have both G95 in standard NATO round and 433/437/G39 in .300BLK.

biggest mistake these kraut enginijjers did with G36 design was to building it up with polymer receiver in mind, then literally integrating a metallic steel alloy barrel extension straight into its polymer upper receiver 🤷‍♂️
G36 design overall is fine, but this one mistake nullified it as when the gun goes hot after continuous firing, barrel starts warping and being a free-floating rifle it starts loosing zero, as evident from experiences in afghanistan
it's perhaps okay to have such a setup for european alps and climate, but worldwide it's a stupid design
Steyr offered a metallic upper receiver for G36 but it was too late as H&K already had M416 and other designs available on offer

Happens during training too. Trust me I know!

and yet they attempted to cover it with "Nein, Gewehr ist in Ordnung!" type clarifications from the military and government
this is same H&K we're talking about that made britshit L85A1 into a functional rifle at least by fixing issues on it with L85A2 upgrade and so, but when it came to their home product they had to do such gymnastics to hide their issues?!
reminder, HK416 got its short stroke gas piston system directly from G36 only, but it was thorough a metallic receiver design so didn't suffer this kind of issues
