Super Sukhoi program is IAFs program to upgrade it's fleet of SU30MKI. which will bring it to modern standards. It's upgrade will make it the best flanker. Total of 51 systems are being upgraded by IAF
the costs to upgrade each aircraft is around 700 crores each. Roughly around 85 Million dollars each

Here are some of the most important system which are going to be upgraded and will have significant impact on performance of SU30 MKI.

Gallium nitride (GaN)based radar, mission computer , dual band-IRST(infrared search & track), 5th gen DR118 Electronic warfare suit, DC-MAWS (dual colour missile approach warning system), GaN based ASPJ (active self protection jammer pod), DFCC, digital glass cockpit, towed X guard decoy, heads up display ,software defined radios, fly by wire with quadruple redundancy, Chemring Countermeasures featuring Chaff Cartridges unlike the previous Flares utilized by Indian Flankers, RAS(radar absorbing structure)& RAM (radar absorbing coating)possibly,
Improved Air-frame life with total 6000 flying hrs,
Chassis wheels braking system,
Modern digital weapons control system,
Most important addition of new A2A, A2G weapons, among which will the most lethal astra mk3 SFDR. Which is Indias meteor equivalent but larger with more fuel.
improvements in its engine life & thrust.

This upgrades will make SU30MKI most lethal flanker even surpassing Chinese flankers in its capabilities

A beautiful machine, it deserves being upgraded, when I was still young I loved the Su-35, so Su-30 was a must

`Draft note’ on Sukhoi upgrade project all set to head for PM-led panel’s nod
While checking updates quickly, for few moments, I misread & misunderstood the sentence as some kind of cockpit LED screen upgrade. :facepalm4::scared1::tape:

7 years of more devlopment, it means first upgraded jet will join IAF in 2030s only

Kya??
7 years for development work and flight testing when most of the things are tested and will be derived from mk1a or mk2
Moreover super Sukhoi upgrade is going on too
And why tf they need 15 years to upgrade 84 jets
Either rajat has misread things which highly impossible or the planners are grade A ch****a

control sire
hal's facility has 20 su-30 per year production rate no way we are doing then in 15 years

It's understandable if all 270(post 12 additional) take 15 years
But for 84 it's impossible
And 7 years for development is highly imaginary
Already a part of super Sukhoi that is navachakshu is going on most of the sub systems are developed and even tested in mk1a and will be tested in mk2

Yes and another thing is super Sukhoi is process.
A su30 won't be upgraded at once with all the systems. Gradually systems which are developed and tested will go into it. Like the new ew suit.
So as soon as a system is ready it would be put in aircraft.
Also for eg aspj pod which is included in upgrade.

It could be like this the full completion of upgrade (last thing to be put on super su30)will happen after 7 years.

Still I would say we should wait for more things to come out..

Just for perspective HAL completes TOTAL overhaul of 30 MKIs per annum. They can as well do 40-45 if push comes to shove per annum. What this means is once certification is thru & production of components / sub assemblies stream lined HAL can easily upgrade as many as they've overhauled in the past.

Then how high is our current MKI version compared to the other varients ( MKM , MKK , etc)

Why didn't we go for the new Al 41FS instead we went for Al 31F?
Because we already manufacture it in india. It's ecosystem is quite developed in India. We can significantly maintain it on our own. We have the overhaul facility. That is not the case with al41f either we will have import it or it would be very costly to manufacture, maintain overhaul
