Trump’s Obsession With Taking Credit

As a Trump supporter, I struggle to understand his constant need for self-praise. He deserves credit for challenging America’s economic dependencies on imports from China and pushing Europe to fund its own defense. But he often takes it too far—talking about annexing Canada as a 51st state, claiming Greenland, or trying to undo the Panama Canal treaty signed decades ago.

He also claimed full credit for bombing Iran’s underground nuclear facilities, even though Israel carried out most of the strikes, taking out above-ground sites. Since Israel depends heavily on U.S. support, it couldn’t object publicly—even when independent observers noted Iran’s capabilities were delayed, not destroyed.

A similar situation occurred when Trump claimed credit for ending the India-Pakistan air conflict. In reality, India had severely damaged Pakistan’s terror & military infrastructure, forcing Pakistan to back down. Trump’s claim of pressuring India with trade sanctions was denied by New Delhi and his comments were not directed at Pakistan’s terrorism at all. Trump will be tested if trade deal now under negotiations is not finalized. Moreover India has withdrawn from Indus Water Treaty of 1960. Let us see, Trump is able to press India to restore it. Now Trump has lost all the diplomatic cards. Next best thing he can do it is to send the B-2 bombers.

Yes, Trump has stopped talking about Ukraine war. He found Putin too hard a nut to crack. He needs little guys to put pressure on, hence stopped talking about Ukraine war.

Why this obsession with credit? It’s a core part of Trump’s personality—something few predicted before his election. Now, we simply have to live with it.
