Tariffs and Trade - Trump’s Pressure on India

India currently enjoys a $46 billion trade surplus with the U.S., a key issue that President Trump and Prime Minister Modi will discuss over the next two days (February 12/13th). Trump is staunchly opposed to trade deficits and is prepared to impose tariffs on Indian goods unless the imbalance is addressed.

Modi has already taken steps to mitigate tensions by lowering tariffs on certain American imports, including motorcycles. Additionally, India has a shopping list of defence and military equipment it plans to purchase from the U.S., which may appease Trump to some extent. However, these measures alone won’t fully resolve his primary goal of eliminating the trade deficit. Increased Indian imports of American oil and gas, coal, gems will likely be another topic of discussion.

At the same time, India must also contend with its own trade deficit, largely driven by crude oil imports. If pricing is favourable, India could increase its purchases of American oil and gas, helping balance trade on both sides.

Ultimately, the hope is that the two leaders can strike a mutually beneficial trade arrangement and avert new tariffs. One potential goodwill gesture is India’s willingness to repatriate illegal immigrants of which 104 have already arrived back, with more to follow. With both sides making concessions, a positive outcome remains possible.

What happened to RFK Junior, heard that the was voted down and now can go to assembly vote or something like that.

Robert F Kennedy Jr is likely to be confirmed as the chief of Department of Health and Human Services after the Senate voted 53-47 in an invoke cloture vote on Wednesday. Lawmakers voted along party lines to cut off debate on the nomination, setting up the final vote for as early as Thursday. Senators are expected to vote in a similar pattern to confirm the Trump ally.

I hope GoI is keeping tabs of the dirty laundry being washed in public by the Trump administration.

And if this is the case, it shouldn't be too long before documents of funds to various publications in India start dropping on SM.

Modi should be utilising his visit to the US to expedite this process .

BTW do you hear anything about this from the usual suspects? Near deathly silence prevails.

Looks like Panama Canal will experience the power of democracy soon.

Here's another Hollywood for Dems propaganda trip this time courtesy Netflix featuring Robert De Niro who's spending the final years of his life afflicted by Trump Derangement Syndrome - a potentially fatal disease .

The makers actually thought Kamala will win & conveniently made the ex President the villain of this limited series.

Then Trump happened & simultaneously the series was ready for release.

Everybody plans & Allah SWT plans but Allah SWT is the bestest planner.

Alhamdulillah !

Trump’s Global Trade War

President Trump has launched a global trade war, initially targeting Mexico, China, and Canada. His second move was imposing tariffs on steel and aluminum imports to the U.S. Then, on February 13th, he escalated further by imposing tariffs on all remaining imports that had been left untouched in the earlier rounds.

This is, without question, a full-scale global trade war.

What is Trump’s Goal?

His primary objective is to renegotiate trade agreements that have turned America into a predominantly importing nation. By doing so, he aims to deliver a decisive blow to what he sees as economic freeloaders.

However, this strategy comes at a cost. Exporting nations like Canada, Mexico, China, and Europe will not simply stand by and watch their economies suffer. In response, they will impose retaliatory tariffs on American goods, creating a cycle of economic retaliation.

Who Wins, Who Loses?

In reality, no one wins. The immediate result will be global inflation, with higher prices affecting businesses and consumers worldwide. Over time, new trade agreements will likely emerge, allowing American goods to enter foreign markets with fewer tariffs and restrictions.

Will this be a major achievement for Trump? ….Unlikely. The true impact of this trade war may not be fully understood for years to come. His presidency would end before that.

“The other ship sustained damage above the waterline, but it continued on its own power,” a U.S. Navy official told TWZ. “The Truman was preparing to transit south into the Suez Canal. No damage to the nuclear power plant.”
The Besiktas-M is now further identified as a Panamanian-flagged bulk cargo ship, according to online ship tracking site Vessel Tracker. The 618-foot (188.5-meter) long Besiktas-M had been heading north after leaving the port of Aqaba in Jordan, with its stated destination being Constanta in Romania on the Black Sea.
TWZ has received additional information about Truman following the collision.

“There was damage above the waterline of the carrier,” a U.S. Navy official told us. “We can’t comment on [the] extent of the damage.”

The official added that “no aircraft on the carrier were damaged.”
