bhaiyon, i have a doubt
i saw a video on small arms and they were talking about ghost guns and 3d printed guns and its parts, can someone tell what they mean?
well you've already got the gist of what a ghost gun is, but to elaborate it all further,
> most 3d printed stuff in these guns, are actually comprised of various receivers for most parts, and only a few things in terms of actual parts inside a gun
> so they're essentially sourcing key parts of a gun, say, barrels trigger groups bolt and bolt carrier groups etc, while building it all up on a custom 3d printed "shell" of a receiver, it's even possible to 3d print shells for magazines lol
> this kinda fudds with various gun regulation laws in the US of A, since many states don't really have a registry or regulation over buying/selling of parts, so any 3d printed firearm build by sourcing such parts and assembling it all in homemade shell mostly goes untraced
> and in modern era of internet and all, it's damn easy to source files for these 3d printed stuff easily
> what's even more interesting is, 3d printed shells or stuffs for these builds actually enables a gun hobbyist to do far more with his build than a commercially sold civilian firearm, let's say, there are tonnes of sellers making and selling bolt carrier and upper receiver of a Mac-10 or Mac-11 sub machine gun, the design was Uzi-ish semi-bullpup one but with 3d printed shells now these guys are making PDW-SBRish conventional design firearms out of that, and oh most of these builds have glock magazine wells on them so any long glock mag goes in it just fine
> now it also opens doors for doing pretty...illegal stuff there, like if you know design of the AR15 semi-automatic, it's possible to make it go full auto by adding some specific shaped part acting as auto-sear and dimensions and shape-angle etc all of them are easily available on internet...so yeah
then there's matter of making machine guns out of glock pistols by adding a 'switch' of specific dimensions and shape just at end of its slide...
that's why everything regd 3d printed guns is a huge controversy there in the US of A, on one hand it is democraticising gun building among enthusiasts that they can do a lot and in some cases a lot better than commercially available stuff, on other hand it's pretty easily enabling criminals to get guns and do their sort of things,
in fact, remember that case of Luigi Mangione the healthcare company CEO killer guy? he too may have used 3d printed glock pistol judging from the photos
but all things aside, if you want some examples, i recommend two noteworthy guys on internet,
first is, ivan prints guns - just look at his 3d printed G3/MP5 builds, the 'plastikov' AK build etc
a monkey with a dremel tool and a dream

then of course, the guy that perfected 3d printed receivers for the AR-15 named "Orca", Hoffman Tactical, he is jokingly revered by gun guys as he sprints without shoes on with his naked feet
