Indian Navy Developments & Discussions (28 Viewers)

THe DPSUs literally contract out entire ships which then sail to their facilities for "outfitting" . This shielding of DPSU shipyards is completely political they exist off "nominations".

Yes, otherwise they would be without orders and workers would lose their Gormint jaabs.
Nibbas live off coastguard and Navy orders mainly.

It's why I said L&T must commercial maxxx, kyunki in DPSUs se nahi ho payega, even Air India was privatized and it is almost sem2sem as how it was under ebil govt management.

Yeah L&T should get into the commercial game. But think of it this way MDL was already stretched by the order of 4 17As they had to do jugaard to get the 4th ship into production. When the IN's orders start touching double digits in the next decade it is inconceivable that private sector does not get into the primary combatant game for both subs and surface ships. Because you know govmint can never have the baboon run shipyards on the backfoot and let the best contractor win. It will have to be when they straight up run out of capacity.

When we reach that level of orders i'm sure L&T will be given it's due.

For now they seem to be trying to boost the capacity of DPSU shipyards.

GSL gets 2x Talwars
HSL gets 2x Nistar, 5x HSL( 3x, rest given to L&T ) and kangs about getting LPD orders also
CSL gets 8x ASWSWC and 6x NGMV, when Vikrant repeat order or other carrier comes they'll get that too.

It is said the NGC order will also be gifted to L&T as L2, 5 will be built by GRSE that much is confirmed.

I have no idea what exactly is the cause of this order-daan to these DPSUs, it could be because of the new commercial shipbuilding push or they plan to give the Admirals a budget increase so the usual MDL-GRSE Dynamic Duo won't be enough to build all the ships.

Its the case of the russians looking at the capabilities of the DPSU shipyards and nopeing out of there.
I disagree with you here, private shipyards that have demonstrated their competence should not be shunted out, L&T is pretty much the single vendor for nuke subs going forward they should be in the running for diesel electric subs as well .
It's not a question of competence at all but more to do with sarkari ownership of those shipyards. MoD is bound by the rule book to ensure DPSUs are given first priority . If they don't , they have the rule book thrown at them.

So unless the system is reformed there's not much MoD can do about it . And the system won't be reformed for our Raksha Mantri is a place holder warming his seat & Leaderji thinks defence preparedness is all about visiting jawans on the frontlines for Diwali , meditation & photo ops.

In short this government is not serious about defence at all, they're merely going about their routine work. Hence L&T will keep getting step motherly treatment.

Agreed .. but what's this.

Agreed .. but what's this.

The new fleet tankers for the navy, people call them "HSL Class" on the internet, 3x built by HSL themselves and 2x subcontract to L&T.
Design gone by a Kochi ship design firm once the Turkroaches were bugsprayed

Germans are not being so co-operative here, just repeat the kalvari class order and stop this water mrfa.

They are being cooperative since Merkel retired and their economy got fucked because of the Ukraine war.

Their vendor had exited the previous P75I tender but rejoined this time for the same reason.
As it is the vendor TKMS was going to be sold so their financial condition isn't good.

why doesnt it have indian air defence system? why soviet vodka systems? we have so many ad solutions now

Navy has only Barak8/MFSTAR or shtil-1/MR-750 Fregat missile-radar combo systems.

It's just cheaper to roll with the Ruskie's standard fit.

After all these ships were not made to order for India but built for the Ruskal navy and then sold to us because of their 2014 Crimea anschluss meant that Ukraine wouldn't sell them the engines for this ship.

VL-SRSAM is still in development

Per unit cost of 300 million for a 3k ton mine sweeper.
Cost and time.
They are cheap frigates.

No choice to go with this since nobody will give us the ToT for FRP hull manufacturing.

And don't think Navy/Govt is keep to import ships from Italy or Korea or wherever.

Basically the big 3000 ton ship will deploy 2-3 of these little drone boats with the ROV mine hunter and mine disposal drones or a old fashioned minesweeper

Large stockpile of shtil missile is already there.
Navy has plan to replace everything with vl srsam in coming years, few of the ships in rajput class destroyers recieved the vl srsam upgrade

The newer shtil missiles have range upto ~70km.
And in altitude it goes higher than barak-8/mrsam.
So now it's more of a medium range air defense system.
Not in the same category as VLSRSAM range wise, but Shtil do still retain it's short range capabilities with instantaneous and fast turn and reaction rate.

so what is the update of DRDO's UVLS?
Last update was during the VLSRSAM test back in March. AFAIK, ITCM (subsonic) trials from UVLS planned for 2027.
