I mean literally the CDS accepted that we had losses. There is strong evidence we lost at least 3 fighters, including one Rafale.

Is it the end of the fucking world? No!!

Did we do significant damage and showed our capabilities to hit Pakistan deep? Yes.

Could we have done more damage and hit actual assets like their AD batteries or military installations instead of runaways or buildings to drive the point home? Yes.

Should we learn from our mistakes and do proper SEAD next time? Yes.

Should we get serious increase our defence spending significantly, given the multiple threats facing us? Yes.

Really don't understand the mental gymnastic s here. Airforce lost those airframe due to political constraints set by Modi and MoD. Although this is tarnishing armed forces image, I think CDS, did try to clean it up by calling out these as "tactical blunders".
The only reason political leadership is not coming to accept losses is because a Rafael is involved here. The had claimed a lot. Even modi had shouted in rallies that if they had rafael , post balakot air battle would have looked very very different. But nothing has changed as Rafaels are outranged by PL-15E. We don't have meteors.
This givee opposition a very good opportunity to counter Modi's strong man/56 inch image.
Coming back to aerial battles, You will see in some time we will go with some more purchases of air to air missile to counter PL-15E. All of these are ^tactical blunders^.
IAF later penetrated the Pakistanti Radar Coverage by destroying radar sites which allowed us to dominate the remaining days of this very short and low intensity conflict.

We lost one Rafale, one MiG-29 and one Mirage-2000. Latter two are very old now and are being used only because of no replacement yet.

With restrictions on IAF on not doing a proper SEAD/DEAD ops (probably that might've alerted jihadis to hide away, or just that bureaucrats were dumb) and offensive counter-air ops (due to lack of long range BVRs and AEW&CS), hitting the targets and coming back itself is an achievement. The aircraft lost were performing combat air patrols when they were hit by their latest J-10C and PL-15s.

PAF was unable to do anything when India started SEAD/DEAD ops between 8th and 10th May, and then we struck their viral airbases and neutralised their high value assets.

Not happening, I've explained this yesterday. Op Sindoor has left a big scar on their capabilities especially surveillance, and their aircrafts are being forced to fly more sorties than they would in peacetime to conserve airframe life.

Even without that they were in crisis. Their Army Aviation Corps is already turning into a Museum slowly. Their Air Force is next, and their Naval Air Arm follows suit.

So pretty much most of the Pakistan's underground Command Center are only around 10-20m deep (from ground to roof). AGNI-5 based penetrator will be an overkill for such depth, based on Hyunmoo-5 spec it's penetration should be ~100m.

Maybe a smaller and cheaper AGNI-P based penetrator is also needed with around 20-25m penetration capability.

Imagine just the introduction of such weapons will leave most of their underground storage, C2 centers redundant. Waste of so much investment by them.

Modi deserves credit for political will to initiate Op Sindoor. And for adding Muridke and Bawahalpur targets to the terms of reference given to IAF. Giving enough freedom to military for ensuring escalation dominance by May 10th. I have no complaints there, in terms of dealing with Pakistan BJP has been leaps and bounds better than INC.

My concern is that IAF losses in Op Sindoor is an opportunity too if channeled right which could be missed. One aspect of it is giving a freehand to IAF to order whatever aircraft it wants for MRFA, it will most likely be another batch of Rafales. I doubt Rahul Gandhi will oppose it like last time. Increasing DRDO funding and to incentivize DRDO & DcPP to begin production of Astra 2 & 3, Rudram 2 & 3 ASAP. Radical growth/changes can be done if institutions feel there is a sword hanging above them.

After Balakot, Modi made a statement that if Rafales would have been there then situation would be different. 36 rafales were already on order at the time. Had IAF/government been in a crisis mode then they would have ordered another batch of 36. I doubt INC would have opposed it at the time. IAF would have been pushing Dassault for early integration of ISE changes (Meteors?). If Dassault was still anemic then PMO would have raised it with French government directly.

What matters during the whole operation had we not achieved the objective, displayed our dominance, climbed to the top of escalation dictated terms forced the enemy to give up so quickly.
