Why even aim for a head! It's the hardest thing to hit in sniper universe.

Furthermore, the distance was not that much for even a proper sniper rifle to be needed. Could have been done with a good hunting rifle. Who goes for a carbine for shooting a president hopeful. Well, someone endowed this fool with a blindness just in the correct time and Trump got saved. That's all that matters now.

One thing is that the shooter was positioned at an angle where it would be pretty difficult to even get a proper line of sight at the upper torso. From Trump's perspective the shooter was at or around 10-20 degrees from his right. Headshot was probably the way to go in this case.

But anyway, this guy was probably one of the spray and pray types, so it didn't matter that much where he shot.
