Since the initiation of the LCA program in 1983/1984, it's FF in 2001, it's induction into the IAF in 2015 till 2024, we have come a long way inspite the various delays which plagued the program. Now the upcoming MK-2 will/should be the ultimate evolution of the LCA program.

It's because of LCA Mk-2 that the IAF will never import a new single engine aircraft simply because on paper, the projected specs of MWF are way too good, it basically offers everything the IAF could ask for in a single engine medium weight aircraft. SAAB's Gripen being offered in MMRCA won't ever win because of Tejas MK-2 so the Swedes are simply wasting their time and being desperate for a deal that they will never bag.

That said, the first prototypes are under fabrication and we can expect a roll out in the next 2-3 years followed by the first flight (FF).

As long as Kaveri doesn't get developed and India is dependent in any small way to the US, all Tejas variants will keep being held hostage to US machinations.

Without Kaveri:
Best case, US keeps drip feeding us and we can't match China's pace and it hurts us if a conflict arises.
Worst case, they hang us out to dry and we concede, and have to be dependent on the US; we make grave concessions in other sectors for said engines and still get hurt in a conflict.

Lesson learned.

For that houthiya govt needs to open the purse strings and provide a flood of funds to the Kaveri project, buy or develop atleast a couple of FTBs, hire the best brains from IITs IISc etc,...and top project mgmt with measurable milestones and deliverables. Else Unkil will continue to squeeze us by the two small round things near the mooladhara chakra

With a state of urgency prevailing regarding fighter deliveries (Mk1A delayed, MMRCA 2.0 several years away from deliveries starting), will the inclusion of canards in the Mk2 design risk slowing things down? I presume that writing the FCS for a frame with canards is something of a step into the unknown.

If Dod has finalised 2 delta-canards MWF & TEDBF then i guess DoD engineers have learned a lot from mixed avionics of Su-30MKI & N-LCA with levcons. They might have studied Rafale also.
Next step would be to test the FCS for MWF airframe with CFD on a Mainframe or Super-computer, which could be going on currently.

F-16 IN was proposed with F-110-GE-132A engine with dry/wet thrust of 84/145 KN.
For 4.5gen 1-engine supplementary jets, we should try to aim little higher for this kind of capability whether we import, make self or by JV.
And keeping 2-3 decades future global evolution in mind bcoz engine tech takes time, if we desire a 1-engine 5/6gen jet or even MLU/ECU for our MWF, then the seeds of regular/VCE engine with dry/wet thrust of 140/200 KN has to be sowed today.

Is it possible to make 83 + 97 = 180 Mk1A before that?

I am afraid Mk2 production will be further than that.

Tejas MK2 will not be inducted before 2032/33. AMCA MK1 will not be inducted before 2040. Bitter but true.

First time in the Indian history, a vise UN General from Import AF took part in all vendors meeting regarding Tejas MK2. Before that UN Generals sent message via Dalaali media ( Unknown source )

Generals were never serious about their jobs before.

Here is the link about Article which shows how Important role generals have to play which they never played well

This also a reply for those who blame HAL to select GE 404 engine for Tejas MK1a. It's IAF which selected the engine.
