You must understand their "Bangla Nationalism" is the typical tribal xenophobia that naturally pops up in societies deep in tongue-in-mouth chummah -e- ummah, it happened in the final days of the Ottoman Empire during WW1 with the Arabs rebelling against the Turks after centuries of bending the knee to the Caliph-Sultan-Padishah, you see signs of it with Azeris, Kurds and Balochis in Iran, Balochis and Pukethoons in Bakistan etc.

Now that xenophobia has disappeared since there is no Punjabi Mussalman doing Operation Searchlight on them for miles, those who remember this are old, dead and gone, but the yooth only see that they are surrounded by evil, idolatrous and most importantly, muscular polytheists.

You're not getting my point. The so called secular nationalist constitution was a creation of mujeeb on the directions of India. One of the reasons he was hated apart from his assuming dictatorial powers & one party rule was his proximity to Hindu India .

Please go over what followed once he was assassinated & Zia ur Rehman took over & his amendment of the constitution . It's the same act which is repeating itself now & these two acts of Bengali secular nationalism & Bengali Muslim Nationalism has alternated in BD up until now .

In the meanwhile their general population got radicalised ( not that they weren't so earlier especially as far as Bengali Hindus in Bangladesh went ) & more importantly organised. The Jamatis & ideologically aligned parties ascent to power has also been gradual. Ershad another dictator inserted Islam as the state religion & it stayed there irrespective the governments who followed.

The Jamatis didn't get where they are today , overnight. It's been a project in the making since a century accelerated since 1971. Didn't those two xhoots who wrote that piece see it ? What's the point of all their education qualification & erudition when they can't see or acknowledge something as basic as what I've laid out & every lay watcher of BD knows for a fact .
