The 'China Hydrogen Energy Development Report (2023)' is released. Science and Technology Daily Beijing, July 25th (Reporter Lu Chengkuan). On July 25th, it was reported that at the finals of the 2024 Hydrogen Technology Specialized Entrepreneurship Competition organized by the China Hydrogen Energy Alliance and the Hydrogen Technology Specialized Entrepreneurship Industry Conference, the Science and Technology Bureau of the National Energy Administration issued the 'China Hydrogen Energy Development Report (2023)' (referred to as the 'Development Report' below). The 'Development Report' focuses on the development of technology and industry at home and abroad, systematically reviews the current status of the hydrogen energy industry in 2023, and looks into the development of China's hydrogen energy industry in 2024. The 'Development Report' points out that in 2023, China's hydrogen energy industry made progress while maintaining stability, adhered to innovation-driven development, accelerated the construction of the hydrogen energy innovation system, continuously improved the foundational institutional system for industrial development, and made positive contributions to building a clean, low-carbon, safe, and efficient energy system. The report further indicates that in terms of global hydrogen energy development, the hydrogen energy industry development strategy is constantly updated, hydrogen energy production continues to grow, international hydrogen energy trade is accelerating deployment, international hydrogen energy prices are continuously decreasing, diverse scenario pilots are accelerating, and key core equipment iterations are speeding up. Regarding China's hydrogen energy development, various regions have successively issued guidelines for hydrogen energy, the supply and demand scale of hydrogen energy remains stable, international cooperation models are accelerating exploration, the clean supply system is gradually improving, diverse applications are accelerating innovative development, and the level of independent research and development has improved significantly. According to the 'Development Report', China's overall hydrogen energy scale remains stable, and the trend of industrial agglomeration effects is highlighted. As of the end of 2023, the national hydrogen production capacity exceeds 49 million tons/year, with production exceeding 35 million tons, both growing by approximately 2.3% year-on-year, mainly used as intermediate raw materials in industrial processes such as synthetic ammonia, methanol, and refining. Coal-to-hydrogen, natural gas-to-hydrogen, and industrial by-product hydrogen are still the main sources of hydrogen supply in China, while electrolysis of water for hydrogen is steadily developing, with a production capacity of 450,000 tons/year and a production output of approximately 300,000 tons. Furthermore, the 'Development Report' points out that in 2024, China's hydrogen energy industry needs to strengthen policy guidance, promote healthy and orderly development of the industry, reinforce basic research, enhance the level of key core technologies, intensify demonstration and promotion, systematically advance diversified industrialization, strengthen cooperation, empower the high-quality development of the industry chain, gradually create new production forces in the energy field, and promote hydrogen energy to play a positive role in supporting the transformation of the energy structure. It is reported that the 'Development Report' was jointly compiled by the Science and Technology Bureau of the National Energy Administration, together with the Beijing National Hydrogen Association Hydrogen Energy Technology Research Institute, relevant industry organizations, and experts.
