It's a small amount to you given your population size , it certainly isn't a small number to the west or the rest of the world.

Besides the issue here isn't the numbers per se , though that's also the case. The issue here is for a nation which has pretensions of being a great power , you should have been the country which has the second largest number of foreign students in the world , studying in Chinese universities which you don't , since you seem to be highlighting your stature as the nation with the second highest GDP in the world.

Why don't you ? Especially if one considers the fact that you've 10 universities among the top 100 universities in the world. If you're going to bring in your population figures once again , I suggest you go through earlier posts of mine questioning CCP policy decisions & priorities & save us both our time.

China can set up institutes the world over to study Mandarin or you could have universities teaching in English or Spanish or French within China . This isn't even a debate about resources this is a debate about the CCP's vision.

Regarding the CCP setting up such institutes abroad to study Mandarin , they actually did something about this. It was called the Confucius Institute. And they used to charge top dollar to teach Mandarin. Besides they were also suspected by host countries of running espionage programs.

In contrast you've the Alliance Francais or British Council teach the French or English for absolutely free or charge a nominal amount , something which is anathema to the CCP & militates against the mercenary spirit or profit at any cost mentality of the Han.

Evidently teaching Mandarin in Confucius institute the world over costs even more . I remember checking out the prospectus online around 10 years ago .

It was something like ~ 60 USD / month for the basic course & as the courses progressed the tariff went higher.

Unlike you , we're a poor country. However for those who wish to learn Hindi in such institutions we've set up under the aegis of our embassy / consulate , the charges are nominal. We aren't as money minded as the Han .

Of course China & India are different. You're still ruled by the same party which caused the death of ~ 100 million of your own countrymen thru man made famines purges etc .

Something like this never happened in India & if it did it'd caused a revolution & the party responsible would be summarily executed. True for any part of the world except for Han slaves in Zhongguo.

I think universities ranking for HK and Singapore in QS are exaggerated, since QS is more considering factors with international communications.

Plus lots Chinese universities are hiding on the list.

eg. PLA S&T universities (国防科大)，even demanding similar scores as Tshinghua and Peking universitiy.
And there are 10 PLA universities with toughest entrance score as other C9 colleges.

Yes, this is the ranking from a Western perspective

It is not a game that is equal for all countries
