Chit Chat

i have seen the same from americans and canadians and in general americans and canadians are far worse in personal hygene than indians are.
This is true generally speaking at least for Hindus brought up in conservative households.

I was raised in an environment where I could eat breakfast only after bathing. My parents and grandparents were very particular about it. I think there were only a handful of instances in my first 20 years where I ate breakfast without bathing.

But, personal hygiene is different from civic sense. Nobody can say with a straight face that littering on the streets is a bigger issue in USA than in India.

The streets of India is the only thing India is less hygenic than USA and the west at.
Personal hygene - india is better
Hygene in accomodation - India is better.

As for healthcare, its straight up propaganda to say americans have it better than India, since medical bankruptcies are the major cause of bankruptcies in USA, the #1 cause for decades and the average american cant even get an x-ray if they dont have insurance, given the absurdly high costs compared to India ( it costs 4000 USD to get an x-ray done without insurance. It costs like 500 rupees in India).

Yes but the average amerian citizen put all of his/her trash in the appropriate places whereas the average Indian don't. That's the key difference. America has excellent infrastructure for disposing trash while India doesn't. Look at that huge mountain of trash on the outskirts of Delhi that caught fire. You won't see that thing happening a lot in America. Sure there have been incidences but America usually figure out the problem and tackle it. India doesn't. Its more of a chaltai hai attitude.
Not the case in Mysore.

Littering is only an issue because there are no dustbin in most Cities. Say we put a dustbin evey 100 m sq area than comes the issue of collecting those thrash cans. Gormint takes it sweet time renewing contacts and trash piles up around the trash can till than for years sometimes.
Even if we sort all of that there are the dardidar population of ours who will steal thrash cans.
Police will probably catch than when pressured but release they after they pay hafta, that is why we still have pic pockets around.
Everything is rotten.

No argument from me on the healthcare issue. The entire system is scandalous in the USA.

actually in south kolkata, KMC has made this 'swacch bharat' initiative, where a whole bunch of workers push this metal square cart through the streets between 5am-7am, collecting all the trash on the street.
The last year i was there, i LITERALLY asked my mohollah to put more garbage bins on our street, instead of 2 at the very end of each side of the street. So we did.
Then the 'square cart people' got all whiny, about how these garbage cans are messy, it gets their hands dirty to clean them out, etc. and its just easier for us and everyone concerned to dump our trash on the sidewalk and its okay, because it will be gone the next morning as they come by their rounds.

We said 'well we dont want litter on our street for 24 hours, its better if its in a bin', so then they basically flipped out and said they wont clean the bins unless WE put garbage bags in them for easy removal and its not their job to provide garbage bags.

After 2-3 weeks of having smelly garbage cans that no one emptied, the street went back to 'dump it on the street, have it removed next day' model.

Theres no waiting period in the US. I don't know about Canada. You cannot diagnose septicemia without an adequate workup. I will tell you that Indian healthcare is not nearly as good as for some fee that many villagers cannot afford, doctors will see patients for only 5 minutes where they wanton prescribe medications. We have this to some extent here, but not nearly as bad as what I experienced. People go to India for elective surgeries because it is cheaper, for now. But as I mentioned, western PE companies are gobbling up Indian hospitals. This will harm Indians long term. Indians have a big problem: Long term, strategic thinking. Short term money seems to trump long term for you people.

In Mysore, there are steep fines if you don’t follow the strict segregation policies/

segregation of garbage ? as in sort out your recycling from compost etc ?
Yes. They call it wet waste and dry waste. Watch the videos I shared. It’s way more advanced than most US cities, their entire sanitation process. The city makes fertilizer and only 10% of the waste makes it to landfill, rest is recycled.

The city is also making pavers from the plastic for usage on sidewalks and roads.

Time to fire these people and get another company that will do the job as requested.
