if we see pakistan nd bangladesh...their whole existence based on india. for eg:-
1:- language (urdu, punjabi, hindi, sindhi etc) originate from sanskrit.
2:- religion (in islam case) - barelvi, ahmaddiyas, deobandi etc born in india. Tablighi jamaat nd mujahir also originate in india.
3:- music, drama, movie - these r highly inspired from indian music, dramas, movies etc in pakistan nd bangladesh.
4:- dresses - dresses r also taken from india.
5:- food - indian masala, similar cooking methods nd taste.
6:- sports - indian sports like kabaddi, kho kho, kushti, gulli danda, ludo, snake ladder etc played in both. in chess case brain is used, which dont used by Pakistani. so they dont play chess that much.
list goes on nd on....its soft power of india. that our enemies cant live without indian things. meanwhile we didnt take anything from them.

Look at China's budget, funding & look at India's. It all depends on the economy. India can't be China overnight. We've missed the boat for decades, not all of a sudden.
In context of other developing countries India is definitely doing good & better each year. In fact India has been spending on R&D like never before. Look at India's improvement in innovation index in the last few years. India is just blowing.
