No its not our wrestling program is shit
Our wrestling star silver medalist Deepak Punia hounded like dogs by Iranian Hasan yazdani

Really? Yazdani is a legend. Possibly one of the greatest wrestlers ever. Former Olympic champion and a triple world champion. He is 30 year old now but In his prime, he used to maul every other wrestler barring David Taylor.

That career threatening injury has done him real dirty but Deepak was a solid wrestler before that. There is a reason he made it to the bronze medal bout at Tokyo 2020. Noobs don't make it that far.
Not just this case compare performance from indian wrestler and then Russian , american, japnease , post Soviet country

Do you really want me to spam random bouts on a thread meant for fitness discussion?

Ravi vs Y Takahasi (JPN);

Aman vs Zelimkhan Abakarov (represents Albania but hails from Russia, also a former world champion);

And I can keep going.

Wrestling, shooting and hockey are the three sports where we will do way better in future because the structure is there. And Russian wrestling went to the dogs the day they got suspended for invading Ukraine - their youth structures have dried out, the most talented wrestlers have since moved out to represent other nations (fun fact: Aman beat 2 Russian wrestlers en route to his bronze medal finish at Paris 2024 - neither represented Russia).

You don't get my point if indian wrestler are good why doesn't indian wrestling bring same amount of medel as Russian wrestling brings them medal
Most of the Russian , american and Iranian wrestler are legendry with multiple medels in world championship and in Olympics for indian wrestler they won one medel and we all get gaga with it
Yaha pe meadel jite nhi par khap panchayat ne silver de diya

Thier wrestler play sports for passion our play for " bas ek natinol ho jaye toh life set hai "
Indian wrstlers are good why doesn't we win even fraction of medal they win
Because our wrestler and training and thier mindset is no where compare to Russian or american ones

Bajrang Punia was sent to Russia (if I am not wrong pretty sure he was abroad for training) on indian taxpayers money
Now how is he repeating that money by Bjp-congress

If I were to draw a football analogy, it is equivalent to calling Croatia and Belgium shit just cuz they have never won a world cup despite producing some of the finest players and generational talents out there. India is not a traditional powerhouse. We were not even in the picture before Sushil's bronze at Beijing 2008 (yeah, I know KD Yadav won a medal before but that was a long long time back). It takes time to build a structure.

It is always difficult to pinpoint exact medal hopes (too many unknowns) but as I said, our 57 kg freestyle is a shark tank - possibly the most competitive in that category. At 65, we have Kalkal. At 74, we have Jaideep and Sagar. All these guys are young and will be serious contenders come LA 2028.

In women's wrestling, we will send medal contenders in all 6 categories (if not gold medal contenders outright);

These wrestlers were very young in 2024 (we were sending u23 wrestlers against literal 28-29 year olds). This won't be a factor in future games.

And I have already mentioned how Russia's wrestling programme has gone to the dogs since their suspension.

The same 'khap panchayat' girl is a double worlds medallist, took down a legendary japanese wrestler in the first round and, if not for some weight miscalculations from her coaches, would return with our first ever wrestling gold from Paris 2024. You can dislike her for whatever she has done in the name of 'muh wrestler's protests' but it does not take away a thing from her achievements.

Bajrang is a 4 time world medallist and an Olympic bronze winner. Was the undisputed king at 65 kg FS in India up until very recently (before the emergence of a young Kalkal) and went undefeated for years in domestic competitions. Safe to say he has served his nation well (even though I despise him for whatever he has done in recent years).

How do you even define 'the greatest'? Yes, Sadullaev is a legend too.

Karelin did not compete in freestyle.
Maybe he didn't but he is one of the greatest he went 6 years no one could score point on him "the greatest"

And still s. AbdulRashid does play in freestyle

First medels in Asian champian ship , commonwealth doesn't matter much
World championship and Olympics are only ones matter thats where real competition is

And if indian wrestling is pretty good why are our star wrestler sent abroad for training

Don't think I said he didn't.

Asian Championship is very competitive. Barring the US, Rus, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey almost all the powerhouses are there.

Commonwealth is shit. Our nationals are more competitive.

World championship and Olympics are only ones matter thats where real competition is

U20 and u23 worlds are excellent predictors of senior level success.

And if indian wrestling is pretty good why are our star wrestler sent abroad for training

Because there are a lot of strong sparring partners abroad? Also, it goes both ways - Timur Ochir was sparring with Ravi, Deepak and a bunch of other Indian wrestlers in the run up to Paris 2024.
