if you are serious, I would suggest to read committee reports from 2012 to 2014.. that was the most crucial time for us to leapfrog the chinese.

We are the largest customer country for both Airbus & Boeing by a large margin but can't afford a single flying test bed?

Issue of no funds saaar, budget constrains saaaar are long gone. It is now pure sabotage to keep foreign maal pipeline flowing

I think it's not only a test bed aircraft that lacks. But all the inboard installations to exploit the test itself, on time.

I have a friend who is an Indian-American, very well trained PhD in MSE (material science engineering). I showed him the list of needed products and he said he's very familiar with a lot of them. But doesn't want to go to India because the salary is too low and he doesn't think the government takes R&D seriously enough to make it worth it for him.

The choice is stark. We either spend some 10 years at the very minimum realising this tech on a shoe string budget & delay the already delayed AMCA project or pay up get the technology we desire & move ahead with our plans .

The blame lies squarely with the Modi administration more than previous ones for not funding the GTRE adequately to realise tech they couldn't in previous attempts funding the program thru drip feed like previous administrations have done all along including this one .

Alternatively we learn lessons , get the JV quickly , invest in test facilities , identify tech like material tech beyond 2000°C which incidentally we aren't getting thru this JV too & we won't get from any JV , fund those attempts adequately , monitor it closely for progress , such that when we launch the 6th Gen FA program which we should before the end of the decade we utilise the learnings of the forthcoming JV marry it into our own realisation of tech thru these endeavours & develop our own 6th Gen TF instead of moving around the world for another JV for the TF.

Now what bugs me to hell is that all these decades GTRE is drip fed money, including by the current allegedly nationalist govt., but I can bet my bollocks that if some JV is cleared with a foriegn partner, somehow PMO baboos will find funds ! Why the eff not have funded the same monies to GTRE in the first place? We might have had an acceptable kaveri by now ala the chinka WS10 - nothing great but acceptable to productise with tejas and iterate on ...

Batman is scared of some CAG report saying that he wasted so many thousands of crores on "incompetent DPSU" because even the DRDO guys cannot give a proper timetable about Kaveri kab ready hoga.

Aside from that there is the pet-pe-laath of various un-elected professionals in the Govt if the Kaveri becomes a success.
