India Canada Relations

Not that way ... Investment can always flow however .. But the removal of funds can be blocked by us... if things are serious enough .. like them seizing our foreign assets etc.
What you're proposing is an extreme measure which usually happens following an extremely serious situation from which there's no going back like a war.

I'm proposing something much less severe. Sever all diplomatic & trade ties with Canada including future investments.

As far as the present investments go , they can continue though the GoI should prepare for contingencies in case the Canadians withdraw , which I very much doubt.

Canadian pension funds have invested huge sums in our infrastructure projects especially our highway & expressway projects.

not much exposure, 85% is in equity. 1.5 lakh crore out of 1.7 lakh crore total.

from last year.

post covid, there is a massive shift in domestic market fundamentals. when news says FII is selling, it also means out public are buying those shares, there by reducing FII exposure.

India goods + services exports + remittance =~ 10 billion dollars i think.. Not much.. but dhandho maxxers still love it..

Exports worth a little more than US$ 5 billion
Remittances worth a little more than US$ 2.5 billion

Rookie numbers.

Canadian pension funds have invested huge sums in our infrastructure projects especially our highway & expressway projects.
Which is a threat to them not to us.
A threat to neither. They can find alternative sources to park their funds in & we can always find alternative sources of investment.

Canucks are more than welcome to pull out their investments. But they won't. :truestory:

It's ~ 20 billion USD . Not a small amount though if put in perspective as compared to the investments by other nations it may seem so.

However I don't foresee problems in case we decide to bite the bullet & completely sever economic & diplomatic ties.

it's all relative.
India's equity market is bigger than GDP of India. :daru:
India—the fifth largest equity market has seen its valuation come off by $490 billion, which stood at $5.2 trillion as of Friday’s close.

Wait for 2 months.. There will be a canadian request for extradition of Amit poppat Shah.. And for remiitance, software exports .. Mudi will swallow that humiliation as well without any meaningful retaliation..

DHANDHO ..
While it generally shows typical brown behaviour when asked aka commanded by gora sahib, but politicians , ias , ips are creme le creme they will be protected at all costs irrespective of party in power case in point kobhragade affairs.
Lower rung are different matter, rouge or no rouge doesn't matter.

20 billion dollar is net profit India is earning after exporting processed Russian fuel to west. So...

Canada opposition leader cancels Diwali event, slammed for 'discriminatory act'

"In a letter to Pierre Poilievre, Bhasker wrote that several political leaders, who had attended the event in previous years, suddenly withdrew this year, leaving the community “feeling betrayed and unjustly singled out.”"

“This is not just about a cancelled Diwali event or an event where the politicians renege on their commitment to attend; it is about a much deeper and insidious problem. Racism and discrimination are thriving in Canada, and this latest development has laid bare the systemic biases that still exist,” Bhasker wrote.

Trudeau has set the trap for next conservative govt (if any), Trudeau -now china India sem2sem

This is why I think the damage to Indo-Canadian relations is now permanent. I do not think that the Conservatives would be any better than Labour. The Canucks can rot for all I care.

I just realised you're referring to their investments in our stocks whereas I was referring to the Canadian Pension Funds who've mostly invested in the bond market specifically pertaining to our highway & expressway projects .

Here's what a cursory search threw up -

Pension funds, including Canadian Pension Plan Investment Board (CPPIB) and other institutional investors, have cumulatively invested more than Canadian $75 billion in India.

the quote must be from someone on canadian fund side. cumulative investment means nothing, it's like counting only money credited into own bank account but not expenses/withdrawals.

their own annual report says their net exposure to INR is 16 billion cad.

this link @SKC gave me the other day, it says entire canada's exposure is 2.3 lakh crore, i.e 38 billion $

may be this particular fund haven't invested in infra, contrary to what is being assumed.

.Canadian PM has publicly alleged so called transnational repression by agents of India, RCMP, CSIS has followed suit, so called conservatives too have started following the Trudeau line (at least by avoiding any blame by attending heathen festivals).

.India has since atleast 1980s to 2022 sent dossiers pe dossiers for legal action which were based on legitimate concerns regarding sovereignty and Canada based terrorism ,but were rejected by gora sahib as heathens unwarranted concerns devoid of any merit

.there were two explosions one mid air, causing casualties in the hundreds mainly Indians ,second was on ground causing two Japanese casualty, only in the latter case did someone was convicted and sentenced

regarding payback and making gora sahib to understand our concerns ,there are lot of avenues but it all depends on what GOI wants and how much it is willing to take the hit in return.

Good that you pointed that out, the issue of failure to identify and apprehend the Air India bombers has come up on Indian TV with Canadian commentators on the various programs. The Canadians have mentioned on a couple of shows, that someone has indeed been convicted and spent more than 2 decades in jail for the bombing. But that is only for the Tokyo airport bombing which mercifully killed only 2 unfortunate baggage handlers. That was actually a CP Air flight, some of whose passengers were going to transfer to an Air India flight from Tokyo to New Delhi. ( the bomb was meant for that flight) .

Nobody has been convicted and sentenced for the Air India flight 182 bombing over Cork Ireland. After 39 years.

Without a proper evidence and a case, the Canadian Prime Minister was bullied by the Americans to start a fight without them dirtying their hands. Now poor Trudeau will loose his job as $700 million in education money and $400 million Stryker deal money will go elsewhere. Poor Trudeau opened his mouth too wide at US behest and lost.
