Any govt. can cancel a passport by picking 1 of 32020383424 reasons it can anytime to pull your passport. Sure, they cant say 'u dont have passport coz of your religion/i dont like your face' coz then courts will call discrimination, but they have like a billion valid reasons to do so.
Heck, sometimes even a simple FIR against you is sufficient for govt. to block your passport from cleared status.
Remember, passport is not like other ID document that you have a right to get provided you qualify ( drivers licence, be of age for ID cards, etc.).
It is a govt. clearance document provided to you, subject to police clearance, that is not your ID for you, but your ID given to you by your govt. as a privilege, with the intent being to show other countries that you are prima facie, not an axe murderer.
You have a right to AADHAR card, you have a right to PAN card, you have a right to voter Card, you have a right to drivers license(provided you passed the test) but you DO NOT have right to a passport.

I wouldnt call taking a bunch of screenshots from social media, recording the name of the person concerned by asking a friend (or themselves in parties by pretending to be a commie bongobondhu of khalis) and popping into the consulate on my way to work as being a warrior.

In any case, that is my past, not the present. I do not dwell in Vancouver anymore and the city i live in has no Indian consulate.
