Indian Air Force: News & Discussions

@Azaad
Thanks for the comprehensive comments.

India has a procurement process designed to stop things being procured in a reasonable time.
The system was designed to be both transparent & to eliminate scope for corruption.

However with practically each such deal seeing corruption the system ended up bringing more rules to eliminate corruption resulting in the system itself becoming opaque , extremely tardy , cumbersome , prone to delays , external interference given the lengthy timelines , still prone to corruption & self serving with the result the process mattered more than the results.

Operation successful , patient dead syndrome.

A long time ago an Indian on another forum once listed the 17 steps required to buy something.
That's still the operating philosophy as it should be since it's sound in principle.

India has 31 fighter squadrons rather than the 42 sanctioned. Does it really need some committee to issue a Certificate of Necessity to get more fighters when it's blindingly obvious that India desperately needs more fighters?

The committee is more of an eye wash designed to highlight the problem repeatedly in the public eye to pre empt opposition moves to agitate when the GoI goes in for procurement outside the beaten track .

If the opposition does so which we fully expect them to do since we've been blessed with a particularly foolish bunch as opposition leaders which is the reason they're in the opposition to begin with , the GoI can always turn around refer to the committee findings , the ACM IAF's various public utterances regarding the alarming shortfall in the squadron strength of the IAF , other reports like the parliamentary standing committee , the CAG reports , the public statements of ex IAF senior personnel on the matter & accuse the opposition of being anti national.

Old wine new bottle.
It's beyond stupid how things are procured. If there is insufficient will to change the system, I would say side track the rules and fast track everything!
Welcome to India. As the saying goes - India isn't for beginners.

Hm.. looks like for next 5-10 years Nukes and Insha Ganesha it is..

Stavatti aerospace USA offering a 6th Generation, Mach 4+ stealth aircraft named SM-39 Razor. Priced at 85 million, the same as the F-15 EX to the alies of the US, India is one of them. Please watch for all the details!

Is this a joke ? Stavatti, seriously ?

Come on! we need to start to talk about and push 6th gen aircraft concepts from India and friendly allies like the concept above, to counter enemy forces with 6th gen flying testbeds and maybe a complete secret fleet of the testbeds hidden somewhere; other wise we'll be stuck on the AMCA timeline; on when and how the program is coming along with great details, pictures, reels and how deep everyone is in the program individually. Thats why I shared the video to stir up the 6th and 7th gen aircraft talk. Let's do it!

People on internet are saying china will have around 500 j20s in service by the end of this year. Lol

The 500 number gets asspulled a lot by Chinese OSINT. Maintaining even 300 jets (no solid evidence, just one guy on wiki asspulling again) combat ready is not feasible for China, considering how many parallel projects they are running.

Never underestimate the Chinese, I have been there and there is no way they don't have the work force to do the needful in terms of technology maintenance and management.
