if we r looking for 42 squads fighter....we hv to ready to spend near 140-150 billions dollar only in fighter aircrafts purchase. if we look 6 billions capital budget of airforce now....that will take next 20 years approx. fighter aircrafts cost becoming too costly. one fighter aircraft is costing near 250-300 million dollars (with weapons etc), near a Corvette ship price. its insane🥶🥶.

The end game is hypersonic drones, missiles and directed energy weapons for a kinetic war. The 42 sqaudron plan was formed in the 80s and with 80s overt tech of 4th gen aircraft like the mig series, mirage 2000s, jaguars etc.

there wasn't a digital centric warfare plan, it was the peak of analog equipment and then the shift to digitization happend in the early to the mid 90s and early 2000s. So the 2 front 42 squadron plan is obsolete.

yeah...but our airforce already told in many occasions that they r looking for 42 squads as minimum capabilities for two front war. so their goal is to reach near 42 squads.
if we look in other airforce. all r increasing their aircraft squad numbers. or atleast want to increase it. other thing like hypersonic drones, missiles, directed energy weapons etc r not replacement of fighter aircrafts. but additional capabilities builder for airforce.

Yes I agree absolutely. According to my knowledge, the future of 5th and 6th gen fighters have drones as wingmen. So I think the world will abandon manned aircraft in the future and will to move on to unmanned assets instead of putting humans at risk. Something like a terminator movie franchise future.

History of Jaguar induction (By Air Marshal Brijesh Jayal)
Posting for the general information of the miltarry aviasun kamminuti of Inquisitors (Ma Ki)

"There was anxiety in the IAF, because the Engineering Branch had flagged a worry that many aircraft in the Canberra fleet were suffering from corrosion in the undercarriage and the problem may only worsen. Hence the search for the so- called Deep Penetration Strike Aircraft (DPSA) began. Clearly, the preference was for a twin engined aircraft (all things being equal), but this was not a mandatory requirement .

The Mirage Fi, Jaguar and the Viggen were flight evaluated by an ASTE team and after a pretty long and deliberate process, the choice was between the Jaguar and Viggen. The problem was that the Viggen had a US engine and CAS ACM Latif and the Defence Secretary Sushital Banerji went to Sweden to confirm guaranteed product support. Unfortunately, the US did not play ball and the Viggen had to be dropped. Otherwise, it is quite possible that the IAF would have been operating the Viggen.

As it appeared that the choice would fall on the Jaguar, various vested interests came into play !! It is worth recalling that this was pre Bofors time and those days it was common for Vendors reps(both Indian and Foreign) to be allowed to meet us in our offices. That there were lobbies and vested interests was also known, at least to us in the Plans Branch as we were dealing with vendors, both Indian and Foreign, all the time! It was at this time that an article appeared in the India Today magazine (which was pretty new) which supposedly quoted test pilots who had evaluated the aircraft bad mouthing the Jaguar !! The article was obviously a plant by vested interests. But it was enough to cast doubts on Air HQ case for the Jaguar.

When the final case came up for Cabinet approval, the PM Morarji Desai requested ACM Latif, if he could personally meet the test pilots , one by one, who had evaluated the aircraft without the CAS's presence !! The PM met Babi Dey and Prithi Singh (the two evaluating tps) individually, to assure himself that all was well. Chandu Gole the DASR then gave a presentation to the CCPA during which I was displaying the charts. It was only after this that the Cabinet approved the Jaguar procurement."

They should have done this 10 years ago - now (or the timelines when it will actually be induced) it's just a overpriced previous gen fighter. We'll end up spending $40 Billion (including the the initial 36 and Navy buys) - it's sure to suck funding from Tejas Mk2, AMCA, MKI upgrade program.

well if we're getting more Rafales, can we get some with Conformal Fuel Tanks atop, Dassault guys did develop it and even tested it out, but never got orders for it

this may perhaps help us free two-three pylons below and use it like a bomb truck during strike operations

Indeed. At the time MRCA was toted as a 10 billion USD deal for 126 fighters. My opinion was that it would be more like 20 billion, my contention receiving much criticism. I have no idea what 114 Rafale will cost now but I do wonder at India being prepared to pay tens of billions of dollars to import fighter aircraft when for a relatively small investment in equipment (wind tunnels, high altitude test chambers, flying testbed etc) and in Kaveri (a billion (?) USD instead of 250 million USD), they could have been produced in India.

At least with a G2G deal India is likely to get more Rafales sooner rather than later.

The Chinese will soon have 100s of 5G and 6G fighters that will be able to target any Rafale long before the Rafale even detects them. Spending 10s of billions on a foreign 4G fighter that will be outdated in the 2030s when they are inducted seems like a waste of our limited funds.

Why not go for the F-35 or at least wait a few years for another foreign 5G fighter if the F35 is not available? What do we really gain by having another production line for a 4G fighter from the 1980s? Order 24 more Rafale for the IAF if you must but I would much rather most of the money be spent on a 5G fighter.

Well. from what you say, IAF's fighter force is outnumbered and outclassed by China's fighters. I think you have got that right.

Is that China's fault? No. China has not prevented India developing and producing AMCA. India has and has to live with the problem.

Indian Air Force aircraft faced massive cyberattacks in Myanmar airspace during aid mission: Report

The sources said it was impossible for the IAF to investigate the cyberattacks as they had occurred in a foreign airspace. However, the sources pointed fingers at “regional adversaries” when asked about perpetrators.

Should have been done along with rafale marines
No, because the MRFA will be built here in India. That will just delay Navy's small order in negotiations.

Yeah especially for ground attack missions this would be very helpful while for a2a roles this would negate it's supercruisabillity.
This is anyways optional and can be removed iaf should order some of this cfts

another khayali pulao of mine,

so, DRDO recently tested out a laser DEW of some kw capacity to take out drones and UAV and such small scale aerial targets

i wonder if we can, let's say, install similar thing at rear side of fighter aircrafts, mated with all missile warning sensors that it can actively take out incoming AA missiles

We're working on Dircm

i know about DIRCM, but isn't it just a infrared flasher that overdrives incoming missile's IR sensor and reduces chances of strike on aircraft?
I meant a laser gun of suitable capacity on a moving targetting pod-like thing that can heat up an incoming missile and roast it to kaboom before it reaches near, all kinds of missiles be it infrared sensing or radar ones

I think for platforms like transport aircraft such as c130,c17,il76 & most important for our awacs this laser based DEWs should be explored

You're going to have to carry the chemical tank too, whether Oxygen-Iodine or Nitrogen Trifluoride. Limiting weapons payload. A short range miniaturized Kinetic hard-kill APS system might be lighter.
