Indian Air Force: News & Discussions

Thanks for the info.

Let me get this right:

IAF desperately needs fighters
money is spent converting Nashik to build Mk1A so they can be built faster
Su-30 is ordered to be built in a plant just kitted out to build Mk1A
money is spent converting Nashik back to build Su-30
a further FAL will be built for Mk1A, so slowing down urgently needed Mk1A production

I can't be right, surely. Someone tell me I've got it wrong!

I don’t think there is any requirement for re tooling in whole plant. 12 Su 30s will be probably built slowly in 1-1.5 year and for Tejas it’s probably 8/yr in Nashik if GE delivers engines in numbers. The 20 engines commitment of GE for MK1A from next year will be done in Bengaluru itself no need of Nashik facility for Tejas. Also HAL has said they will raise the numbers to 24-36 onwards of 2027 if additional 97 MK1A orders is placed.

He will chimp out if anything non-US is purchased.
If even 114 Rafales are purchased even then he will act aggrieved and threathen sanctions and tareefs
Americans jets not gonna be purchased anyways.
So it's better to take risk with su57 as it won't be affected by sanction and we can manage spares for rest of the us platform

Rafale is bought by India for two purposes,
1. So called tip of the spear thing....
2. Benchmarking our own systems and subsystems with the French ones.

I think that is done to whatever extent, at max 36 more is enough. And after that, focus should shift towards own aircraft development program. And in that too focus should be on developing our own engine first. Forces need this, need that should be limited to what the domestic military industrial complex can produce.

Also, war is not about, if the other side is having 5 elephant, I should import 6 white elephants at exobitant prices.if we can buy 100 desi bhainsa with that, we should right away.

Wars are getting network centric, everything is connected to everything.

Nothing is best, its always a combination of our best efforts.

Drones, air defense, rocket force, further technology integration and maybe even robotisation of sectors and sub sectors of defense forces is where we can work it out. One factor alone, that is aircrafts are not going to decide the fates of the war, especially after we have seen the integration of AI into military tech, missiles getting precise and faster day by day, drones coming into play, air defense coming into its own.

Aircraft is not of the same importance, especially when we are not America, that we have to go and fight half way around the world. We don't have the same requirement of aircraft carrier fleets as well (in military sense, not in power projection sense). This is american doctrine, due to american needs. India should have its own doctrine and shouldn't be influenced by what America does.

MOD NOTE:

NO MORE FURTHER TALKS OR MENTIONS OF IAF RAFALE BEING SHOT DOWN AS IT WAS OFFICIALLY DENIED BY IAF AND PROVEN BEYOND A SHADOW OF DOUBT THAT A RAFALE SHOT DOWN IS A LIE OF PAF AND PAKI PROPAGANDA!!!

After kargil war IAF lost confidence in Russian platforms and started buying western one.
Honestly russian platforms su30 and mig 29 gives us much more freedom allowing us to integrate local, israeli, russian and western subsystem.
We will never be able to integrate anything in rafale except french weapons.
Should've gone for su57
Kargil was in 1999
Su30 deal was inked in 2000 and first deliveries began in 2002.
