The UTTAM AESA radar is already in production by Godrej Aerospace, but it still needs to be integrated with the DRDO-developed electronic warfare suite, Raksha Kavach. HAL is currently focused on avoiding further delays in the Tejas program. Perhaps, once the first 40 Tejas Mk1A aircraft are delivered, HAL will have the confidence to begin integrating UTTAM with Raksha Kavach. However, it’s unclear how long this integration process might take.

A friend of mine recovered a large Chinese military drone near the Nepal border — it had landed autonomously due to low battery. He took it to a local electronics repair shop, had it disassembled, and replaced the original avionics with a custom system built using a Raspberry Pi. He mounted it inside the drone using some 3D-printed parts and managed to fly it using his laptop as a controller, connected to the internet. So maybe these things aren’t as high-tech as we’re led to believe.
