Same.
But Darin 3 upgrade was done on relatively newer airframes, new airframes than rest of Jags.
Similarly how 84 mki getting upgraded to super sukhoi are relatively newer airframes than rest of su30mki's.

Even for foreign manufacturers they have a very unrealistic mindset. MRCA saga is an important example of that. They have yet to file an RFP for MRFA. They are having this rude awakening in only last few months. IAF has a history of doing this. If they want import they should get it fast. Just start MRFA and buy Rafale atleast.

There were plans for 60 to be upgraded which is about half the fleet.
But right now they will most likely stop at 2( 32-40 jags) squads of darin 3 Jags, Currently about 13-15 darin 3 Jags should be in service.
All darin 3 jags upgraded should be delivered by late 2020s.
This program is also pretty badly managed and highly delayed one, though not much interest In public so less public scrutiny.

We should have ordered some more after those 36 were delivered. 72-80 seems like the ideal number. Rahul gandhi Intimidated mudi and he backed off, I don't see any other reason why it didn't move forward.

Could be an engine issue [loss of thrust or flame out] when performing nap of the earth flight. Leaving no scope for recovery/relight or successful ejection.

What Modi wanted was bringing the DA's assembly here. The whole setup with Chhota Ambani was for that. But Modi backed off because of Italian prince's chimpout sadly. If we had gone with more orders, there was chance of almost 70% of the Rafale's supply chain moving into India. And ofc Chhota Ambani would have profited from it. That didn't work but I don't understand why GoI just never bothered buying more of those directly.

thats chindi, lca mk2 has high commonality with amca, we should make mk2 as our backbone with 300-400 aircrafts, single engine fighter - cheaper to maintain, better availability as compared to current backbone su30mki, when you order 300-400 and mass produce it, per unit cost would fall drastically, and ordering such a huge no at once would show trust, then it would be much more easier to export it too, unlike mk1a

"Squadrons declining" + GE engine delays for Tejas is an absolutely good argument to import more jets

Even for the Govt, if the italian mutt barks SCAM again, they can give the above argument to the public.

IAF is simply testing water tbh with that number. They are very cautious because they don't trust HAL. If they see Tejas Mk2 being good. Expect more orders for Mk2 during the production process just like Mk1A. There could be 150-200 additional orders for Mk2A or something.
