Indian Army Artillery Programme

You missed the advantage that the ATAGS will have. These include that it outrange any gun which Pakistanis or Chinese have at 48km. That is a big advantage to dump shells on Lahore cantonments from Amritsar. Or in case of Chinese, blow up Chinese Aksai-Chin road from far away without getting too close to their artillery guns.
In case of plaines of punjab and all this is true but in case of mountains firing at max ranges doesn't occur due to variation in altitude contours and sometime targets is on the opposite side of the mountain in these cases high firing and direct firing is undertaken (which more or less makes the 48km record useless) other than that in tibet plains it could be a GAME change

ATAGS is one of the best towed guns in the world (even though it is on the "heavy" side at 18 tons).
It's is one the best in its category
Any sane force would have inducted in huge and if they had similar requirement and threat like ours they would have done way better job
3 artillery procurement programs are in ccs table
307 atags
100 K9
150 Garuda(not sure about it completely but high chances)

An emerging trend in global artillery is the unmanned automatic unmanned wheeled 155/52mm like the new Chinese offering from NORINCO SH-16 (above) or the Serbian NONA B-52NG. The Indian Army should look at joining this technology trend.

If IA has decided they do not want to procure the ATAGS in large numbers then they won't. Now I am above this moh maya and just want my soldiers to have an artillery gun which they want to have. If they want Athos then be it.

Yes it's very frustrating at this point
Infact today's situation is due to govt's rigidity towards indigenous product if govt has allowed to import as per their wish we would have been in better situation
But we can't do anything if army wants to import bcoz at the end everybody is suffering and putting us in very dangerous position
U can't defeat the lobby easily

Curious to know whether order for 307 ATAGS guns has been placed and executed by the private sector. How soon is the delivery?

Also the second tender for 400 guns now issued is separate from ATAGS.

No but the RFP has been issued for the 307 ATAGS to BF and Tata.

This is a separate RFP for 400 Towed Gun System which weights < 15 Tons. The overall requirement is of around 1200 TGS.

Indian Artillery ……

Indian Artillery gun purchases has been very confusing. There are multiple guns in operation including the most modern 155mm/39/45/52 guns. The confusing part is that how many guns from various manufacturers are likely to be ordered or have been ordered what has Indian Army received so far or likely to receive in next 3 to 5 years.

My understanding is that we have the following number under upgrade or manufacture or order. With my layman’s understanding I list the following:

1. Left over of Bofor guns (I believe that 150 are still operational)

2. Up gunning the Russian 130 mm to 155 with Israeli help. We don’t know how many done and how many more to be done.

3. Manufacture of Bofor guns from their old drawings which the OFB had for decades. I believe only 45 have been supplied. The government process is very slow.

4. Purchase of 100+100 more ultralight 155/39 guns from USA. I may not be right about the exact numbers.

5 Self propelled gun from South Korea 100+100. Has the supply been completed.

5. ATAGS; I believe 307 or so are to be supplied but no clarity on its status and who is manufacturing that. Is it TATA or Kalayani

6. New Tender for 400 or so 155/52 gun has been released. We do not know who will be the favoured supplier.

Against the need for 2000 guns; only about half will get supplied as above.

For every reader’s clarity, would somebody draw up the exact numbers and supply situation and remove the confusion. Otherwise salesmen under assumed names in this website will continue to push their product and confuse the situation more.

Please do……

Depends tbh. If firing from height into valley, 48 km range can be extended also.

I am also not sure how Israeli and French guns are under Indian Designed Developed Manufactured category of tender.
