Indian Economy

This episode has some great points and new perspectives, especially parts about female participation in economy.

some points I noticed :-

India isn't social ready for stuff like elder care as a business

women still have to manage between household chores and professional work

more women entering into fields leads to more consumption cause they now have control of there own money

any particular reason why you felt these points are important, to understand where you take your info from.
for me, it was that food expenses are reducing as a percentage and food basket is getting diversified.

Mainly cause it's improves consumption numbers
and elder care can be a solid industry in India, years down the line given our population.

Pakistan has a significantly lower average life expectancy and much higher infant and maternal mortality rates compared to Bihar. Moreover, Pakistan does not even conduct a decadal census, so the actual situation could be much worse. I don't understand how they conclude that the average Pakistani has better living conditions than the average Indian.

SAARC countries except Indian and maybe Bhutan. Don't take their numbers seriously. Bangbros numbers were worse than Andhra Pradesh and they claim to have GDP per capita on par with India.

Even Indian statistic size is small. But with big digital India thing. I believe government can actually see the real numbers. But we need to update our SOP on data collections.

business wallahs will figure something out, like they always do.
Industry's already figured out long ago what we're figuring out now , that too a select group not most of the people around here ( the whole lot I assume are within a percentage of the population of our country who can boast of being geo politically aware & awake ) , which is exploitation of labour is a fact , will & must continue to be so for us to reach milestones we've set ourselves for the west reached where it has thru colonization & maintained it thru neo colonialism whereas communist countries like China are exploiting their own labour class while we're still debating it .

So what's this got to do with our industrialists arriving at a solution you're claiming they did - you may ask . I give you the malaun lungis from BD & their bros in arm the Rohingyas . One of the other reasons the administration is turning a blind eye apart from select political parties for which this constituency serves as a vote bank , is to cater to the industrial lobby like the L&Ts for whom domestic labour - whether local or migrants from other parts of the nation present their own set of headaches , whereas the ordinary malaun lungis has their balls in a vice like grip of these industries.

I've anecdotal evidence from not just one but multiple sectors across India from infrastructure - whether construction or power plants to garments to services etc .

In Pakistan Collecting data from remote areas is extremely challenging due to the presence of Islamist groups. several polio vaccination workers have been killed in past, government officials and NGO workers avoid these regions, as entering them poses a serious risk to their lives.

elder care is big business in south - gated communites exclusively for 60+ , with parents left to fend for themselves being the new normal.

That’s not good. It’s a further decline of our societal norms and built in protections to ensure the safety and education of our next generation in our value system. Our elders would be looking after our children while we work and help maintain the household while we take care of the daily expenses and we inherit our elders properties. It’s a symbiotic relationship that has been around for thousands of generations.

btw, Those numbers have improved quite a bit since 2019. Tamil Nadu IMR has almost halved at ~8 now per recent state data. There are improvements for other states too going by the news.

GOI needs to release updated statistics.

This transition did not happen abruptly in one generation. It was already in motion, with the previous generation firmly laying the foundation via adoption of nuclear families and cultural/emotional micro-adjustments. The current generation is only responding to these "natural" changes and solidifying them.

It is not easy to take care of the elderly people, particularly with mental or physical disabilities without proper social support. People have to tend to their jobs and kids while avoiding a mental burnout. Plus, familial attachments are weakening.

Pakistan’s literacy rate is often cited as around 62%, but this is based on surveys rather than a full-fledged census. The criteria for literacy in Pakistan is the ability to recite kalima, it is often counted as literacy. India’s definition of literacy includes the ability to read and write in English and a local language, along with basic numeracy skills.

Bihar’s literacy rate has been steadily improving, and it is expected to reach around 90% in the next census. The states literacy rate was reported as 79.7% in the 2017 caste census, showing a significant rise from previous surveys like NHFS, which had it at 70.1%. India’s overall literacy rate is also projected to be around 86% in the upcoming census.

If we counted literacy as pakis, we would easily have 90%+ rate . Alot of elder folk that are like 75+ can read or write but can easily recite some mantra or local purana hymns orally, cause they've heard it thier entire lives. People back in those days used to verbally remember some important parts of our scriptures.

Yeah, if reciting a mantra alone were the criteria for literacy, then India’s literacy rate would have been 100% even 30 years ago.
