Indian Navy Developments & Discussions

Naa, stress on rapid construction and honeycomb hull structure for better strength and rigidity. You'll see the same thing on the first gen Shivalik hulls.
But its not even fast construction, took them almost 4 years for a 1000 ton ship. Let's see if L&T's is any better.

INS Himgiri (P 17A Nilgiri Class Frigate) and INS Androth (Anti Submarine Warfare - Surface Warfare Craft) have completed Contractor Ship Trials by GRSE

Le Francais way of ToT. @BON PLAN

I suspect this is one of the many reasons Naval Group got booted out of the Australian Submarine Program & also the reason the Norwegians never considered you a serious prospect apart from the Malaysians accusing you of acting in bad faith .

You may possibly argue the Aussies are never getting that N submarine thru AUKUS & you'd probably be right but that doesn't take away from the fact that NG's reputation precedes it & you were kicked out of a project which'd have earned NG billions. Damn! I nearly invested in NG shares myself.

Levity apart this is probably the reason MoD is taking its own sweet time tying up negotiations where they seem to be running thru every minute detail with a fine hair comb for there's a total lack of trust given our experiences with le francais in the Scorpene project & later with Dassault during the negotiations of the now scrapped MMRCA project. This doesn't augur well for the outcome of the project.

It's seems to be once bitten twice shy in which case one can see the dilemma of our security establishment. Having signed the contract & invested billions if le francais get up at the eleventh hour & refuse to accept terms they've already agreed to, the entire program will be stranded not to mention the AMCA project which will be severely handicapped.

Our decision to go for stobar will really negatively affect our purchase of future fighter jet, specially in terms stealth fighters.
Catobar gives you more flexibility here.
Basically catobar is a "must" for future carriers and not a "desirable capability" anymore.
Steam catapults dont go well with Turbine powerplants. We aren't investing in nuclear boats. And EMALS is a fantasy right now.

That fantasy will need to become reality if we decided to go for more carriers in the future.
But again it's for future to decide, but as I said befor catobar has now become a "need" instead of "desirable capability" if we decided to go for more carriers in future, whether that need would be realised is another thing.

If IEP comes through with the desired power reserves in P18 class, consider it a given for IAC 2/3 and thus, EMALS. If not, well ...

Yes & I've mentioned this before that if the GoI & MoD didn't botch up the submarine procurement plans of the IN , there'd be no additional 3 Scorpenes.

Having said that the Project 75 I tender specifications were framed in such a way so as to prevent participation of NG. Eventually TKMS has been declared the winner.
And some more highly costly Rafale.
What's the connection between Rafales & Scorpenes ?

You won't see the implications of this act today but 2-3 decades down the line like the Russians are after literally blackmailing us in the Admiral Gorshkov / INS Vikramaditya saga with the result that except for a few projects we've with them , we've barred them from the rest & they're literally pleading with us to buy there wares or enter into JVs with them .

Do remember not very long ago , Russian equipment made up ~ 75% of our inventory. It still makes up the majority of our inventory in all 3 armed forces but is soon turning out to be a thing of the past .

Let's wait for a couple of more decades to see how well le Francais economy is doing ?! You'd have your answers by then for we have long memories as the Russians will confirm.
