Indian Navy Developments & Discussions (13 Viewers)

Good ship concept from South Korea, similar ship/cruiser class could be a good fit for Indian Navy. It can carry heavier tactical missiles like SMART, LR-ASHM, ET-LDHCM. Could also be a good candidate for BMD role as well by carrying AD-1 and AD-2.

The weapon profile of this is quite different from projected P18 class based on what is available in open source.

Too much VLS based missiles.

Current trend are those shipping container missiles.

Basically you have an empty space in the middle of the ship and place these missile-containers on it, then you connect the missile to ship's systems and launch it like you would do with any VLS missile.

It's mostly used for ASHBMs though.

Main advantage is you can quickly reload since it's just a shipping container sized dabba on a flat surface

navy is better than import army and import airforce but you should know they arent saint, their indigenous projects are also decades late, if navy babooz are their in shipyards, why dont they get latest mannufacturing and production techniques so that we can churn out destroyers and frigates every 2-2.5 years

They do, 2-2.5 years is chong level and there is a long time to reach that level

Anyway for Nilgiri class frigate order they had put it in the contract that the winning shipyards have to obtain "modular ship building technology"

i.e you build 4 pieces of the ship separately, then assemble and launch it.
old model is you build the whole thing in one "berth" in the shipyard so that space is taken till the hull is fully built

MDL/GRSE for this purpose had to get Leonardo/Fincantieri of Italy as a consultant to learn this + they had to order some new and bigger cranes.

Now the above methodology is standard in commercial shipbuilding, but our baboo yards depend on only Admiral and Coast Guard's big orders, so naturally it is the aforementioned only who get them to upgrade their equipment and process.

As for timeline we have seen improvement, hull launches now take place in a year for small ships like ASW-SWC or 2 years for large ships like Frigates, rest of the time goes for outfitting, trials and testing.

Outfitting may be delayed because of partially impoorted Radar and Missiles and VLS.

Order quantities have also increased, 7 for frigates, 16 for small ships.

Navy walas are not saints and doodh ka dhula but they are much better in building their stuff and getting shit done to that effect as compared to their peer forces.

They are even #1 at getting any Imports past the gauntlet of MoD babooze and CCS :troll:

i hope they modernise the equipments and employees at hindustan shipyard vizag first, mfs spent a decade on subpar refit of ancient soviet subs, idk how are they making arihant class ssbn. all we can do is pray to topji

They are doing that.

They were also not building Arihant, a Navy controlled "Ship Building Centre" does the Arihant building.

There is a larger extension of this facility for P77 & S5 subs also being built

By comparison HSL is tiny :troll:

Also they are only doing this because they need a conventional sub building DPSU shiypard on the east coast
