Indian Navy Developments & Discussions

Mein Gott!! Even their tanker looks more stealthy than our 'stealth' destroyer.
That's the point of it... It isn't. It's just the fore-section shaping that's giving that effectI. It's just looks, we shouldn't care much for looks.

Han, abhi baal ke khaal nikalte raho aap. And it's not as if our destroyer is lacking when it comes to vertical surfaces and clothe hangers sticking out of every bit of real estate.
Sorry you dry fish over them and not clothes. Our ships shall have plasma stealth so shape does not matter </sarc

I know, but can't we just make our designs a little more... you know?? Streamlined and clean??

DFB nibbiar challenge

If you were allowed to, what all would you fit on the bow for armament?
You have to keep the RBUs, but you can move it to the back or front whatever.

Just how much can we missile-max with the khali-sthan on the ship?
24x brahmos with 48 Barak8s?

For e.g this is the Anglo Type 26 frigate, 48x SAMs( VLS is of 6 cells ) and 24x VLS that they will use for asroc or land attack missiles.

Ehh meaningless to try without UVLS. And this is not up to scale either. VLS stolen from 055 class, cell sizes adjusted to roughly mimic the max size of Brahmos cells.

Ok, where were we....?

Yes.
Shivalik was "clean", they kinda moved away from cleanliness .🥲 Should've been like this... Hope P-17B is.

NGD maybe, the NGC also looked pretty "clean" although far too much like we've directly copied China's Type-56 Corvettes.

Sadly NGMV isn't so.

It should be this, by all reasons as stealthy as possible because it's small & can actually be LO... Also it's pretty fucked if detected with it's protection level. It's sole USP should be low-observability!
Just use our OPVs & make the stealthy, then add some VLS, it will kill frigates.

Because while we're playing meeting-meeting Chinks are gonna replace their 50 Corvettes with the new one.GAA8bz5WcAAlsvg.webp

I think all things considered, it's better to have a decent number of VLS integrated in a new ship than no VLS. More VLS can be fitted into the platform as and when available.

Even the Brahmaputra Class had no Barak 1 VLS (24 equipped on each) when it was initially commissioned.

The shoulder-held Igla-M (SA-N-10) SAM launcher was used as a stop-gap measure aboard INS Brahmaputra at launch, until the ship was retro-fitted with the Israeli Barak SAM system, with fire control provided by an EL/M-2221 STGR radar. INS Betwa and INS Beas were commissioned with these systems deployed.

The Japanese Mogami Class frigate has no Mk. 41 VLS (16 planned for each) as of 2025.

The VLS has already been budgeted for all 12 ships of the class, but no ships have yet equipped with it. According to the Ministry of Defense, the first two VLSs will be delivered to the JMSDF during this fiscal year 2024. Specifically, these VLSs will be installed on JS Niyodo (FFM-7) and JS Yubetsu (FFM-8) at first.

The South Korean KDX-III destroyer (Sejong the Great Batch II) has only 1 of 6 planned KVLS-II modules (4 cells in each module).

In the KDX-III Batch 2, the KVLS-II will be installed as six modules of four missiles each. These are located towards the rear of the vessel, aft of the twin funnels, and ahead of the helicopter flight deck. For the time being, Jeongjo is fitted with a test version of the KVLS-II, which appears to consist of just four cells, at least based on photos of the warship under construction. This suggests another five modules will be added at a later date.

Yes, some pages back I gave an example of a class of Korean destroyers that came with 32 mk41 vls because their K-VLS was getting delayed, but later ships of this class came with K-VLS already installed and the rest had it retro-fitted, for a total of 24 K-VLS + existing 32 mk41 VLS.

@Ayan Barat also said some pages back than IN has the fancy supersonic/long range and expensive missiles( Brahmos, Barak-8 ) in local production, but not the short-medium range cheaper and high quantity subsonic missiles( NASM-MR, VL-SRSAM in development )

So in all likelihood the Empty Spaces are to install these affordable missiles later on + one more benefit is they can use their budget to get few more ships of the same class for 7-8 ships total, instead of getting more barak8 and brahmos per class but getting like only 3 ships

Anyway since like what 7-8 years ago when i was interested in Navy topics, they have improved in some areas
for e.g

>Ordering ships in large quantities, like 7-8 for Frigates( hopefully NGD also ) and 16 ASW-SWC corvettes compared to like 3-4 before
>Dividing orders between shipyards, instead of the 10 foot MDL doing everything, now big warship orders split between MDL and GRSE
>CSL being given orders for Corvettes after their lone Navy project of INS Vikrant
>GSL being given orders for Talwar frigates, they haven't built corvettes before
>HSL being given the Navy fleet tanker contract inspite of not going for ((( ToT ))) with those Turkroaches
>They somehow managed to persuade GoI to buy the OtoMelara Strales guns/kits, it's the newest weapon upgrade in years
