Oh well, this won't sit well with the BJP haters.

Article claims there will be a caste column in the census questionnaire - so this is exact Ctrl C +Ctrl V of census 2011. This is the only important piece of information in the article - the rest is hubris (census cannot be conducted in FY 2025-2026 cuz too many formalities involved and no budgetory allocation made, a census cannot be completed in 15 days etc).
Good move but is being done in such a haphazard way that it will backfire. Every year changing the syllabus and content. Why not bring a full change at once? Why class 8 textbook has such vile content? Also what's the point of removing Mughals when we can mention the genocides they committed and make the students aware of it?well, this is from 4 days ago.
Wonder if you give credit for Modi on this one, especially since on the same subject your asked me to criticize him?

No Mughals or Delhi Sultans: NCERT revamps Class 7 Social Science books again
NCERT has dropped chapters on the Mughals and Delhi Sultanate from Class 7 Social Science textbooks completely, introducing new content on ancient Indian dynasties, Maha Kumbh, and sacred pilgrimage sites instead.www.indiatoday.in

Did you even read it? It doesn't change anything immediately but in the future the oppositions may cap reservation based on the population number of castes & now they're being spoon-fed with the opportunity. That's the issue. How will that be a blow to GC?
We are not getting reservations now & we will not get in future. It does not affect us one bit.
It is the false fear mongering.
Zero today. Zero next year, Zero ten years from now for GC. No loss, no gain.
Anyway, I was mainly only addressing a specific narrative where few members were running wild saying BJP will now give muslims reservations.
which is completely false.

If lower castes get more seats then the seat numbers for general will decrease automatically.
That's what may change if BJP isn't playing with something else.
Also BJP is a master player of politics. Only time will tell whether it's only about caste census or something else for a bigger step.
Muslim reservation claim is bs nonetheless.
BJP also gave scholarships to Muslims while bringing anti WAQF law.
I did and was bought out of it by PVN Rao . rest everything else is natural progression. Between talking of PDS, people typically get allmost non edible grains these days ..left over once everything is sold ...
What makes you think that it can't be removed in the future going by how stupid Indians are behaving? Specially in the UP Bihar & TN folds. Politicians will force themselves to listen to the people.Unless 50% cap is removed, what you are claiming is not possible.
The only party talking about 50% cap removal is Cong+ not BJP.

Like I wrote earlier, there is a reason why that 50% ceiling has survived this long. You cannot just pass a law to breach that ceiling - milaards will strike it down (multiple states have tried and failed already). You will need an exemption through the 9th schedule which is challenging in itself (only TN was granted this exemption and it was specified that nobody else would be granted a similar exemption back in the day) and even then it is not guaranteed to survive judicial scrutiny. What makes you think that it can't be removed in the future going by how stupid Indians are behaving? I'm not quite sure this is how things will pan out. Muslims & Christians are also being enumerated on the basis of caste & simultaneously we're being told the Muslims won't be eligible for reservations. If that's the case why enumerate both ?Like I wrote earlier, there is a reason why that 50% ceiling has survived this long. For all the rr we do on Indian judiciary, they are the ones maintaining the equilibrium on contentious issues like these. In other words, the Indian state institutions do indeed work. Are they perfect? No, far from it. But they do a pretty good job maintaining the status quo and finding the middle path amid contentious demands.
