Indian Politics and Democracy

Obviously, since it destroys your claim that lower deficits mean we are doing well.

You are the one who thought the PIB article showing increase in MSPs was actually a big deal. You are the one who claimed that increase in MSPs resulted in more govt expenditure.

And despite all your pathetic wordcelling attempts, you still cannot seem to grasp what food subsidies signify.

I am not gonna take the trouble to go through congressi Telangana government's budget docs to argue any further.

I agree that freebies help win elections.

BASED!

My point is the price we all pay in the long run. Your claim is since deficits aren't going up, we are fine.

Telengana shows otherwise.

Do not really care about your brainfart theories, tbh.

Political point, not economic.

Of course, this is the politics thread.

You claimed freebies are fine as our deficit are not increasing. Telengana shows otherwise.

As MP demonstrates, they are just taking from capital expenditure and shifting to welfare to artificially meet fiscal deficit.

MSP are a form of freebies as you are setting a minimum price for something that's not a standard across the board.

You claimed procurement has decreased over time, something you can't backup with data. Infact, I have shown the opposite.

If you just have political arguments then don't bring in numbers like you have economic arguments.

Your vulgarity doesn't put me off, in fact it amuses me slightly as the desperate attempts of some with low intellect as a sort of come back.

No BJP gormint is doing anything remotely similar to congressis or what KCR did in Telangana.

Good. Gormints have hit max capex, they cannot push anymore.

You have shown fuck all. Food subsidies have been cut down significantly in the past 4 years, that is the money they use to procure and distribute crops.

Like I keep writing, not my fault that you cannot comprehend what food subsidies signify.

If you just have political arguments then don't bring in numbers like you have economic arguments.

You started bhosdapilling on a politics thread. There were other members and even some moderators who engaged in good faith and yet you kept coming up with bait responses - you do not get to play this victim card now.

Like others have said, this new forum is super chill. The old DFI would have Tihar jail'ed you for trolling.

Demonstrate how what BJP is doing is different. Low deficit mean nothing if you take away from capex and provide freebies.

Food subsidy is a broad term. When I proved MSP has gone up, you claimed procurement has gone down.

Inaccurate claim. Demonstrated to be such.

You can keep trying to squirm away but it's useless. Everyone reading this exchange can understand.

When you couldn't handle Telengana, you tried to claim it was an obscure source. You are the one engaging in bad faith.

The only troll with vulgarity is you my intellectually challenged friend. I don't care about what would have happened in some other forum. You are free to post there.

No, I will not explain jack to some random virat bhosdapillar who will not take a few minutes to read up on India's food subsidies and PDS system.

My only regret is that I did not start e-lynching you from the get-go - if I had noticed the absence of a flag on your dp, would have done so much much earlier.

Who are you if not some jack random? When you make a claim and can't back it, you make a fool of yourself.

I am not sure what e-lynching is but it seems as impotent as your arguments.

Food subsidy increased as a result of covid but it is decreasing again.

Issue was MSP and procurement of grains under MSP by the government.

This will stay here until farming remains the main employer in India specially north India

It should be atleast targetted towards actually poor farmers. But this government can't sell that.

Also, what's earmarked and actuals vary.

I have backed my claims well enough with annual food subsidy figures. This govt deliberately does not release MSP procuremnt data in detail (only drip fed to media) because the figures would look catastrophic from a political pov. Which is precisely why it is impossible to run a thorough analysis on y-o-y MSP procurement stats and in absence of that, food subsidies are excellent proxy indicators.

Either you are too dumb to understand this.

Or, you are deliberately coming up with bait responses to troll members.

So now your claim is we don't have procurement data? 😂

Eh? Who even brought the so-called western standards here?

Indian states are not allowed to maintain a debt to GSDP ratio exceeding 40% - unless explicitly okayed by the union govt. And states need permissions to raise capital from external agencies - which come with a lot of T&Cs. States with poor fiscal health (WB, Punjab, Kerala) are subjected to punitive action (allocation from the union govt are cut down, restrictions on external borrowings/expenditures are imposed etc).

This is by far the fiscally healthiest the republic has ever been - if anything, those Russkies should learn from the GoI.

No, it won't. Fiscal deficit at 4.7%, debt to GSDP estimated at 31.3% at the end of FY 2025-26. BJP gormints are obsessed with fiscal health, often at electoral perils - there is a reason why those states continue to have excellent fiscal health. Whatever little doles they hand out are effectively canceled out by fiscal consolidation elsewhere.
How are we fiscally the healthiest, when 5 years ago we had a lower debt to gdp ratio than today?? No debt is always fiscally more healthier than any debt.

So now your claim is we don't have procurement data? 😂

You might be surprised to know this, dear bhosdapillar, but releasing data on procurement of every crop in every state used to be the norm once and the numbers would get directly displayed on Ministry dashboards - not drip fed through media, like now 👇

That's meaningless when the government itself claims increase in procurement. So desperate. 😂

From the government itself:

Food Grain Procurement

The decade from 2014-15 to 2023-24 witnessed an impressive 6900 LMT of paddy procurement, a substantial increase from the 4590 LMT procured in the preceding ten years (2004-05 to 2013-14).

Similarly, wheat procurement has seen a substantial surge, thanks to proactive planning and meticulous execution. The procurement increased from 2140 LMT in 2004-05 to 2013-14 to 3072 LMT in 2014-23.

Does not negate what I have written - statewise y-o-y figures are not available. Only some nos on paddy and wheat. Also, PIB is their PR department, in the UPA days they would upload details on their Ministry websites.

Also, your chart shows that 10 year cumulative production numbers (procured at MSP rates) have plateaued (when adjusted for the GDP) - which directly runs contrary to your brainfart takes but then again you are a retard so I do not expect you to be able to read graphs.

More nonsense. Procurement has gone up with time and on yearly basis as per the articles.

You have no data to counter this. When asked you claim you won't provide data to some random jack.

Moron makes a claim, can't back it, provided counter evidence and then cries in bold. 😂

Edit: Since they have increased the limit to 25% they are looking to procure more.
