Indian Private Defence Sector

This is another classic example of the defence services being either clueless or worse compromised. What does it take to exercise a little common sense?!

For all the babooo inspired paper work, literally in tons that goes with every RFI & RFP are we to believe something as basic as MoC, Place of Origin isn't part of the process or was it overseen during the vetting process & if so, why?

The outcome of this which these incompetent idiots won't fathom even now until they undergo another trial by fire is they should've identified all such components originating in China & check for alternative sources simultaneously initiating a fund in house under the aegis of IDEX or the Technology Development Fund under the MoD to develop these tech in house.

Instead what we have is a cancellation with the vendor paying a heavy price which in turn affects the confidence of the entire ecosystem. I can already predict what's going to happen. These vendors will go in for alternatives & file for price escalation which the armed forces in this case the IA have no choice but to accept thus leaving the door open to allegations of malfeasance & corruption.

They'd still not have initiated a consolidated fund under the TDF to develop such tech in house till they actually come across a real bottleneck like the tech itself which isn't hi tech by any stretch of imagination but the Chinese who've exercised total control of this market like so many others by establishing a monopoly , simply driving all competition in these sphere out of business thru under pricing & what's more the few options open to us in the West or other such venues would see Chinese stakes in it much like the propulsion for the Tapas / Rustom / Archer NG or whatever that Goddamned thing is now known as.

Aatmanirbhar Bharat: MoD inks contracts totalling Rs 10,147 crore with EEL, MIL & BEL for rockets of PINAKA Multiple Launch Rocket System to enhance Indian Army’s firepower

Ministry of Defence has inked contracts with Economic Explosive Limited (EEL) and Munitions India Limited (MIL) for the procurement of Area Denial Munition (ADM) Type-1 (DPICM) and High Explosive Pre Fragmented (HEPF) Mk-1 (Enhanced) rockets respectively for PINAKA Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS) at a total cost of Rs 10,147 crore. In addition, a contract for upgrades in SHAKTI Software has also been signed with Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL). The contracts were signed in the presence of Defence Secretary Shri Rajesh Kumar Singh in New Delhi on February 06, 2025.

ADM Type-1 of PINAKA MLRS has a specialised warhead to deliver a quantum of sub-munitions over a larger area targeting mechanised forces, vehicles and personnel, thereby denying specific areas to the enemy. HEPF Mk-1 (E) rockets are advance version of inservice HEPF rockets which have enhanced range to strike deep into enemy territory with precision and lethality.

The procurement of ADM Type-1 (DPICM) and HEPF Mk-1 (E) rockets will mark a significant milestone in the modernisation of the Artillery Rocket Regiments. These advanced ADM (DPICM) and HEPF ammunition will play a crucial role in bolstering the Indian Army’s firepower by enabling precise and long-range strikes.

Beyond enhancing national defence capabilities, these projects have immense potential of direct and indirect employment generation by encouraging the Indian MSME sector through components’ manufacturing. The procurement marks a pivotal step towards modernising India's defence infrastructure and empowering indigenous industries, which will be a proud flag-bearer of 'Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ vision of the Government.

Contract to be executed in 8 to 15 years, 86% within 10 years.

Frankly I'm getting more convinced by the day our dhotis, babooos & vardis are dead sure we're not going to have any disturbances whatsoever on the northern & eastern borders.

Why should we be losing sleep over this then ?!

yes, this is why i keep insisting on defence fanboys to have a look at our doctrine and post-independence military activity history. the pace of procurement and reforms are a downstream of our doctrine, they will go at their own pace.

no point getting hyped up and depressed on a daily basis, when every major procurement process is taking almost a decade and delivery another half a decade to a decade. that's half or a full productive life time of an individual. at the least, folks have to be very aware of the timelines, and let others know.

just because news cycles keep forcing defence fanboys into highs and lows, doesn't mean we have to fall for them.

basically, don't be this guy ;)

My humble submission being what we'd be going up against in the next 5-6 years will be unlike anything we've gone up against since Independence.

It's like Mohammed Ghori had been pillaging N. India since nearly 2 decades including the the 1st Battle of Tarain before the 2nd Battle of Tarain & from the little we know of the way the battle unfolded, the Rajputs fought exactly the way they did a year ago.

While the stakes aren't as high as it was nearly a millennium ago, the costs will be extremely high & I'm not referring purely to the material costs here but something much more than that

Bingo !

Sandeep Unnithan touches on this very topic with a panel of guests. More importantly he also hosts a discussion on our internet vulnerabilities. That's an even bigger shocker than our cavalier handling of the drone issue.

NewSpace Research and Technologies has developed the Visual Navigation System VNS for operations in GNSS denied airspace, and as a protection against cyberattack.

In the modern battlefield, GNSS signals cannot be relied upon. These are susceptible to jamming, spoofing, or complete denial in certain combat scenarios, making them unreliable. Adversaries with advanced electronic warfare capabilities can easily disrupt these signals, causing drones to lose their way or even fall into enemy hands. The use of radio control in these situations is equally hazardous, as it is highly detectable and can inadvertently reveal the operator’s position, exposing them to potential attacks. Additionally, long-distance operations in hostile environments often lead to weak or broken signals, limiting the operational range and effectiveness of the drone.

To combat advanced electronic warfare capabilities disrupting GNSS signals, NewSpace Research and Technologies has created the Visual Navigation System VNS, a new solution in our portfolio, which empowers the on edge NRT MOSAIC intelligence to fly missions in GNSS-compromised areas, providing accurate navigation while operating entirely independent of GNSS or radio control signals. In essence, VNS does the same thing humans used to do before ubiquitous GPS usage - it lets the drone navigate by reading a map.
