Indian Railways

What's with Vande Bharat Train designer, he speaks like a doomer guy on everything including the upcoming 250kmph BEML Train. What exactly does he want us to do? Just screwdrivergiri or import by paying hefty fee?
Did you even read what he wrote?

He's asking why ICF (the designer of Train 18) subcontracted the HS train tender to BEML. ICF had the opportunity to innovate and create a completely new train, yet they simply passed everything to BEML. This was a good opportunity for them to buy new tooling, and build a modern process

Now all the glory will rightfully go to BEML, even though GoI gave ICF the chance. BEML will have all the tech to build HS trains while ICF will be stuck with building dabbas.

May be govt wants beml become specialized in bullet trains.

Shudhanshu Mani have a protectionist mindset. He wants everything goes to ICF meanwhile government want more competition in railway manufacturing.

ICF have done good job but same Train -18 became victim of their internal politics which let 3 years delay in the project.

Diversification of knowledge is a good strategy to create competition.

Need to scan your ticket to enter (this is true throughout Europe and Japan also)
On the platforms? Not at all. Atleast not in Germany and Netherlands!

To enter the platform
Yes even for that. You can just walk in. There's always security overwatch and DB security personnel doing their rounds. Post sunset, the security is tightened to keep people from loitering etc and at night to keep the homeless away.
Extra ticket checks have been happening lately in the border areas to stop illegal migrants but apart from that you just see stop and search for people suspected to be drug dealers or petty thieves.

You are right.
I think he is talking about Matro train.

Does the proposed Mumbai nagpur HSR have a top speed of only 200 kmph ?
I get it that the route is short but doesn't this hamper commonality for say if the line gets extended to Hyderabad or further eastward ?
Shouldn't HSRs be common along the lines of the MAHSR and all these semi HSRs come under normal railways ?

In France, you have to scan tickets to enter the platform. Maybe, it's only for TGV.

Well, he's a railway babu and former GM of ICF after all.
Then how do you allow food vendors and hawkers? It would be a good idea because you can do some screening out although it can. Mean that station keepers can become corrupted and demand bribes for entry and right to sell food or goods at train stations.
Obviously there will be separate entry points or access cards for rail employees and authorized vendors.

Single Institute/Factory can't be expert in all kind of transets. ICF has done its job in building the TOT coaches for Railways and now Train-18.
For more specialized trains you need to involve the institutes which are involved in more complex products.
