Cost cutting maybe ? But the black one looks the same when viewed from above. I dont think tube housing makes much of a very huge performance enhancement ?

maybe they use different tubes for lower cost , as tubes account for most of the cost in NVGs ,
Now as different tubes will have different dimensions thus different housings .

So C clamping is a thing in 11. They got crazy amt of new shit as a part of modernisation - maybe got an external trainer too

C clamping that SAR would suck. The charging handle gets in the way. C clamping works best on long handguards with an extended rigid arm. Operator here needs a foregrip, vertical or angled. Also compare the handguard real estate difference between the SAR and the X95.

The X95 also moved the charging handle back to allow all kinds of gang signs grip styles on the handguard.

Guess u can remove that ugly ass handguard on the SAR and put a foregrip - israelis do the same. Havent seen our SF doing it except on x95s
