First of all I had clearly mentioned 'DMRs and Sniper rifles' before listing the names so don't try to act oversmart by twisting words.

Secondly SSR = Suppressed Sniper Rifle not 'Sniper Support Rifle'! What's even a 'Sniper Support Rifle' huh? Just inventing new names to prove your pointless point and rant all day...
Not getting between you two but "sniper support rifle" is an actual used term.

Rajeev bhargav.
Officers are deputed into SFF for three years right? Do they have any stringent selection process like probation of other SFs? Just three years is a dumb decision if its true.

The whole temporary deputation tradition is dumb.

Units like SFF, SG, NSG etc deserve a permanent cadre (officers or otherwise).

The skills & lessons to be learnt by such a unit (to include joint training & exercises with foreign units) are something that should be built up over the lifetime of service of an operator (like spending 20+ years in the unit).

And when new operators are recruited, they should be working alongside & learning from teammates who've spent a lifetime doing the stuff they're doing. Not those who just barely figured out how everything works themselves.

No comments against the officer mentioned.

Officers and ORs are sent on deputation to both 22(Vikas) and 22(SGs) under the aegis of SFF just like NSG!
The thing is when a young maj or caption tells the CO that he wants to opt for SF, majority of the time COs are reluctant and deny the request. In place of letting an officer go for SF, the CO sends em to SG(SFF) or Vikas(SFF) or SAGs/SWS(NSG) to get a taste of SOFs for 2.5-3yrs. CO's have a genuine reason for this phenomenon though, units are always short of officers especially the YOs, some are yet to join the unit, some are on various courses and others are on leave.:D

The absolute least that the Navy can do is upgrade the old MP5s in MARCOS' inventory and pass them on to VBSS. That would still put them 25 years behind, but they would still be better than WW2-era Sterlings. Even the old Tavors that MARCOS no longer uses can be passed down.
