GoI/MoD isn't really bold enough to undertake an op on the lines of NATO countries where we enter deep into enemy territory to take down a HVT or rescue a critical asset.

If the adversary knows about the critical asset and its location, then I think SF can't recover him, no matter how good is SF. SF may be asked to capture 2-3 of their valuable assets in tit for tat. That can be done, but again you need high tech SF for this along with full intel support.
