Indian Special Forces

But we can't deny the fact that every other country around and away from us except maybe Nepal, Bhutan, Pak & some sub saharan mils have their avg joe better equipped than us.

Using chest rigs/lbgs isn't a problem - the sadakchaap quality that hurts your eyes is! Do they get the job done? Very much. But do we fail in the psyops/aesthetics part? Again yes.

Sadly, most folks here don't care as long as kaam ho jata hai.

Bahar jo infantry loadout hota hai woh yaha SF ko hardly milta hai - abhi toh infantry ke weapons aur tender se unhe ja rha hai share.

Deficiencies toh hai but sabse khatarnak baat yeh hai ki boht zyada logo ko usse daar bhi nahi hai ki we're falling behind.

SF ke paas nah rahi specialised equipment, na SF like mandate and ops, na lobbying leadership. No blame to them, boys are hard!

*Rant ends*
I agree with him though, these type of pics are only good for archives if there's any. Yankees take their time and only post pics which match their criteria(as part of their soft-power projection and info-warfare).

Whoever says western loadout is for psy ops to u is an idiot of the biggest order.

Brother we are loosing men coz we are night blind..NVGs are not aesthetic.

Remember this..Good gear builds the confidence of the operator.

Col singh is not talking about aesthetic.

Our operators have some of their skills wrong too.

We need a lot of work.

…….

I will tell you a story i was told on day one of my first job…

There were three friends in a jungle and two of them started debating on what to do when a tiger will come..they discussed techniques while the third listens..then a tiger actually comes and the third one runs…

Others says why are you running you cant outrun the tiger…He says i dont need to outrun the tiger i just need to outrun you two.

Moral of the story..We will never be better equipped than Goras perhaps…All we need is to be better equipped than Pakis and Chinese.

I have written about this in the previous forum.

The fact is everyone knows that the gear, uniforms, visual standards are sub par. That's already a fact, established.

The problem is none of the members talk about employment of our special forces. The moment till we use our special forces for counter insurgency ops, they'll keep doing the paramilitary job. You keep on sending them into the jungles, they will use the unit tailor made vests and Wet canteen Pants. Look beyond that.

One of the interviews on Shawn Ryan show, the guest says" Send 12 of us, we might overthrow a government, take over the functioning of the institutions of a country". That's the level, strategic, tipping scales kind of employment should be our focus.

The rest will follow. Our Special forces should be viewed as invisible extension of our country's reach. They shall be trained in such a way.

The man himself has spoken...:D

If thats what u want, I won't discuss it here.
But a little hint will be nice, if possible...

Almost all Para units are getting into this now. Tactics and training facilities are being shared amongst each unit. Some of them are standard amongst all, some are unit specific.

True indeed others have pointed out before already that we need to think of our SF as an actual SF not infantry man

And good to see you on the new forum welcome

Thnx for the hint.
I can sleep peacefully now.

Keep giving us copium like this so we can survive better before going extinct, on a serious note Aimtrex technologies has done some amazing work for our guys and happy to have a company like that here in India

I find it that the Yanks absolutely don't need to take their time and sift through dozens of pics to find that one pic for soft power projection, maybe it's the other way around, if at all, sifting through dozens of perfectly good pics to avoid that one embarrassing pic, like that of the Destroyer captain with an inversely mounted LPVO

We on the other hand wait few months for that one good pic from SF, by then dozens of such karma-whores have posted a lot of embarrassing shiiet already

There is no comparison in this regard

I think that was Tim Kennedy on Jocko Podcast, anyways, if we are to discuss employbility of SOF personnel. Let me bring to your attention how McCrystal changed JSOC
From Ch-18 of Relentless Strike

"That direction was away from the large set-piece operations that for so long had dominated JSOC’s thinking. Instead, McChrystal wanted to expand the capability to operate on the left side of a spectrum that had large-scale joint readiness exercise-style operations at the right end, and small, completely clandestine missions on the other.

“He wanted to go blacker, faster, smaller,” said a source familiar with the meeting. McChrystal expressed preferences for smaller tailored packages for such missions and for a Joint Readiness Training paradigm, in which JSOC elements trained together on specific tasks, but without the massive joint readiness exercise umbrella."

"To help accelerate the process, he made the entire JOC facility a sensitive compartmented information facility, or SCIF (pronounced “skiff”), so folks from different agencies and task forces could share top secret data quickly and openly—a complete reversal from the mind-set that traditionally dominated special ops and intelligence organizations."

"Perhaps no individual other than McChrystal himself was more responsible for turning JSOC into an information age war-fighting machine over the next couple of years than Colonel Mike Flynn............“The NSA did not want to have the aircraft in Iraq,” said the officer. “They wanted to do other things [with them].”17 Opposition to the reorientation of Orange also came from high inside the special operations world. “That organization wasn’t designed to do tactical intelligence for JSOC—they pirated it,” said a retired special operations officer. “This was supposed to be a strategic asset that was doing serious stuff.”

So JSOC started having minor capabilities of NSA, CIA and other agencies so as to not be depended on them for tactical intellegence.

Now @Yodha you tell me how far are we from having all this ? No details need to be shared just a general perspective, that would help

Yeah, that's what I indicated by SF like mandate in my rant - but I agree, most of us are myopic about the whole SF thingy and it gets stuck to subpar gear part.

The more they do high stakes, kinetic ops, the better will their kit, lobbying and stuff get. Like how the govt wanted to give them a makeover after 2016 strikes (although never happened).

Lt Gen Prakash Katoch has emphasised this in his book too. Hope with threatrisation, army raises a dedicated SMU/spec ops unit and pulls them out of CI/CT.

Our Infantry is not at that level that you can pullout all SF units and expect to dominate Kashmir.

Some units have to be there and they should be rotated.

Funny thing is…the best equipped units aka 9 and 4 are the ones who are fighting the most..so this arguement is not practical.

There are some units who see very less combat and dont even have dogs and ballistic shields (the new raised ones).

I feel combat helps you a lot but i dont like the way 9,4 and 21 and maybe some other are over used.

And i also feel SF should not be used in petty ops like now..they should be used on LOC.

Yeah I meant pick the top performing units only.

If i was the Chief i would do this…and i can be wrong..

SF to be used for cross LOC ops and raids.

Max deployment 6 months.

Strength one company of each unit..2-3 units max.

1 NSG team in Srinagar for high stakes urban ops.

Form a Ghatak company in every brigade for special ops like in Rajouri recently..equip them well and train them with SF instructors.

SG to be used for infiltration across.

Basically SF should operate how SSG regulars were embedded with PAFF in the last 2-3 years?
