Indo Russia Relations

A Top Russian Thinker Described His Country’s Differences With India On Eurasian Security

Thanks Vinash. Make this post as Sticky as first post of thread. This post nicely summarizes the dynamics and limts of Russian and Indian relationship. Indian Russian relation is pragmatic and transactional(more in terms of acknowledging each other interests) and not emotional as some DFI members think.

There is no such thing as an "all-weather friend." There is a such thing as "shared values" and "shared interests". Usually interests >>>>> values.

Before making such statements, I would look at how India got her nuclear submarines and the subsequent nuclear submarine program on track and its space program started. And how Russia prevented UN from sanctioning India during her nuclear tests and wars that India fought in.

Russia is indeed an all weather friend no matter how much you deny it.

Take a look at this article:

you are both right actually.
Russia and India are all-weather friends, not because of shared values or shared interests, but due to no conflicting interests.
Russia's three main geopolitical objectives are, in order of priority:

1. shorten the indefensible western front of the Eurasian plains, aka encroach further into eastern Europe and create a shortened frontline, ala USSR ( When USSR was at its peak, the western border, aka the border with Poland-Checzoslovakia-Romania was the shortest western border of the Russian empire).

2. Secure access to warm water ports in the black sea and keep itself as the dominant power in the black sea
3. keep its supremacy in central asia while competing with China for influence, especially over Kazakhstan ( the buffer state to Russia's soft underbelly).

India's main geopolitical objectives are :
1. Neutralize Chinese presence in the Tibetan plateau
2. Assume total control/dominance over the entire Subcontinental geopolitical region
3. Act as a rim nation on the world continent to connect the east and west via its central position on the world island.

As we can see, Russia and India have zero conflicting long term geopolitical goals, even at its maximal extents. India is never gonna go mess in Uzbekistan/Kazakhstan, Russia is never coming south to Afghanistan again, India doesnt give a shit about what Russia does in eastern europe or black sea, Russia doesnt give a shit what india does in the indian subcontinent or in tibet.

Hence, we are long term all weather friends/allies, as we have nothing to clash on.
Add the fact that Russia is a giant walmart of resources and india is basically a starving economy for resources, the economic metrics, on paper, also align well for mutual benefit.

For which project?

We don't have any platform to use the AL-41F engine.

Has GE-414 been cancelled?

IAF already rejected AL-41 for super sukhoi upgrade no real benefit for the cost incurred.

Rest India doesnt have any project in pipeline to use the same.

For su-30 mki engine upgrade project, IAF definitely will not be planning to use same engine for 30s and 40s.
Americans first should bring their level up after the GE 404 shenanigans they pulled.
