ISRO - General Discussions

This is actually really sad. We should really have surpassed Russia by now. We have the capability yet not the intent. For example we can make a IRNSS coverage for all of the asian landmass + the Indian ocean for the cost of the delhi mumbai expressway.Let's not even get into the RR of satellite internet. Tens of satellites should be launched by us every year. We have the knowhow we have the money yet everyone is waiting for some divine intervention before actually doing anything.

Probably low earth orbit? LVM3 did place nearly 6 tonnes into LEO for the OneWeb satellites 2 years ago.

This is almost certainly LVM3 M5. M6 is not, as per Anonymous Bharata, going to launch Gaganyaan-1. So M6 will be a comsat or an earth observation sat into GEO, like G2.
M6 is a com sat, G1 will launch Gaganyaan -1

i know it sounds like 'khayali pulao' and irrelevant in these days but 🍑

any scope for ISRO developing..."Space Artillery" ?

i think Baba Kalyani is right contender for forging stuff related to this hypothetical project

GIRI (Gadanki Ionospheric Radar Interferometer) is Indian counterpart of HAARP.
Probably item number #1523 and #2567 in list of things to do for ISRO
Where?

No, we have the intent but not the capability to carry out 10+ launches in an year.

GIRI...?! First time even hearing about it...please elaborate

Yep. India simply doesnt have the funds to launch satellites like candy into the atmosphere - As people dont remember, we do not have recoverable launch vehicles, nor do we have the YUUGE soviet era state funding of Roscosmos- which despite being cut back drastically from post USSR days was still giant in funding compared to ISRO.
This is why we cannot compete with Cheen-Rus-USA in launch capacity. Yet, we do well in total satellites launched/launch capacity and until India has a real demand for satellite based technologies in private sector AND has re-launch capacity or gets 3x richer like Russia is to us per capita, ISRO wont be a main player in space industry.

Why does per capita matter when the aggregate GDp of India is larger than Russia? In fact if India ‘s per capital is equal to Russia we would get less Human Resources for the same money.

To match China, we need to produce 3 rockets a month. We are producing one in 3 months.

Satellite market won't come unless there is good launch window and rockets won't be produced to improve launch windows unless there are enough satellites. SpaceX has eaten away global launch industry and it will take time for others to recover.

Only pvt player will do this. Make rocket manufacturing automated and good supply chain like spacex.

Reuseability is the key. ISRO is research organization.

Privatisation is not a magic wand. Growth depends countries technological prevalence (that is knowledge infested in a society).

Private sector is miles behind DoS in industrial production and if demands suddenly skyrocket today out of nowhere (which is impossible), then it would take 15-20 years for private sector to reach capability where ISRO is today.

Why exactly?
Integration & Testing is taking more time
Are they facing issues in development of the systems?
Again, Testing and qualification is taking more time than anticipated. Gap between G1 & G2 will be atleast 2 years. If G1 happens in 2026, then G2 will be in 2028 & if both the missions perform as expected then you can expect H1 by 2030 at the earliest,if not it will be delayed further

This is not the correct info as per interview given by ISRO chairman in Dec 2024,

We are looking for launching Gaganayan by later 2026 only.

Even if we think he was retiring and not showing the real dates I dont think delay could be of 2030 at max by 2027 Indian Astronaut will be launched by Indian Gaganayan

Dude, Gaganyaan-H1 will be NET 2030, just wait and watch.

Somnath sir said that G1 will fly in Feb 2024 during CY-3 post launch press conference, then he said in Feb 2024 that it be launched by June-July 2024, he also said G1 will precede TV-D2 ,then he said it will be in Dec 2024, then he said it will be in Early 2025...... Now they are not even talking about G1, Narayanan sir recently said that TV-D2 will be launched before G1.
