Was Tejas ever in contention? I don't really understand why HAL spent a lot of time ad money on trying to sell the aircraft to Egypt.
Looks like LCA Mk-1 is on the verge of losing another order to RoK's F-50.![]()

I don't know - do you think that Tejas would have got the Egypt or Malaysia deals on merit? What about Philippines? The Tejas will never win against the FA-50 in these countries. They are corrupt to boot and KAI always walks in with a fat wad of bribe money. It was even in Malaysian local news when the T-50 went up against the Tejas and won. Their air force denied all allegations of corruption and bribery, had the investigation shelved and brute forced the purchase. Same thing is happening in Egypt. Unlike India the Egyptians don't maintain a zoo of aircrafts for redundancy. They are simply too corrupt and will buy anybody's product if the bribe is right. They treat public tax money like fodder and weaponize it against their own lower class.
Merit as a "fighter jet" sure, way better than fa 50.I don't know - do you think that Tejas would have got the Egypt or Malaysia on merit? What about Philippines?
It's in production already.Has Mk1A been certified?
'
- On 20 May 2022, the Tejas Mark 1A prototype completed its first flight. HAL intends to obtain a certificate from Centre for Military Airworthiness and Certification (CEMILAC) within 30 months before this version enters mass production.

Thanks for the info. I look forward to IAF receiving half a dozen by the end of the year. It's in production already.
Engine issue is the only thing preventing it from delivery.
6-8 mk1a already done waiting for engine at hal's facility.
No, best than that would be a Tejas shooting down a JF-17I pray to the gods that Teju & Astra score their first kills, I would love to see Teju shooting down a F-16

if we r going for war with pakistan in air....pakistan primary choice for attack or defence will be with j10 nd f16. meanwhile our front line will be rafale nd su30 mki. mirage 2000 will be also used for ground attack roles. tejas nd mig 29 will use for defence/offence purpose as third line.I pray to the gods that Teju & Astra score their first kills, I would love to see Teju shooting down a F-16
thats for peacetime....for CAP (combat air petrol) missions single engine fighter like mig 21 nd tejas is good option, coz they r cheaper to operate. but if we r going to attack or defence...we will definitely deploy rafale nd su 30 mki in front line, coz they r most capable fighters in our air force. our su 30 mki base is very near of border nd su 30 mki hv also good (1500 km) combat range. so they can come near pakistan border easily nd they hv also air refueling capabilities also. yes our su 30 mki hv high RCS, but its jamming pods can make it to go near to enemy aircrafts. near means 50-70 kmIf war broke , tejas mig 21s and mig 29s will be the first to face the enmy
Tejas is stationed at gujarat ,mig29 is at srinagar and mig21 s in rajasthan
