LCA TEJAS MK-I & MK-IA: News and Discussion

Aaaah, apparently the weight increase of ATAGS is because of an "all electric drive" asked for by our esteemed Jurnails.

Also reminds me of reading the chronology of the Arjun tank saga
A certain piece of it reads like this
  • Imported Army comes up with new requirement that tank should have integrated mine plough and other such additions
  • DRDO is like ok, we'll do it, this gets done but then some additional weight is added because of new requirements
  • Imported Army then screeches "Oh no, it is Overweight, IT WILL SINK IN THE DESERTS OF THAR"
  • Imported Army buys T-90 instead in 1k numbers but only 100 Arjun is procured

btw we need to have a "Gems of Jernails" thread.
We all will break bangles there (just disappointed)

We don't know why weight is higher. Some parts maybe over engineered, maybe that much weight is simply unavoidable due to higher aiframe MTBO rules set by IAF.

Problem is that Airforce wala won't tell if there is some pros to that "heavy Tejas", similar to how Artillery Jurnail PR Shankar was yapping about heavy ATAGS but won't tell that it also has higher range than ATHOS.
Since then many news alloys materials have been developed which are lighter I don't know in detail but some 4 -5years in some exhibitions or maybe aero show many details came out abt it.

@Azaad remember this post seem we were not wrong in our speculation in previous discussions
Govt is same wait and watch mode man for last 20 years. Testing facilities are needed like now to collect data and make on time progress. Unless running to Russia, France and aamerica for testing and blowing monies there seem similar to moog import scene isnpite of local alternative available? Or no one's want preodic onsite opportunity to go away?

I heard that we always had a few older Gen Electric F404-GE-F2J3 engines with HAL that was pre ordered for the prototypes.
What will happen to them? There was a proposal to use them for MK1A as an interim till the new Gen engines arrive. Its low thrust though. Dont know if its true.
Is this whats happening now. This was posted few months ago.

What is wrong with the current negotiators? If they are able, why complicate matters? If they are not able, why were they appointed to negotiate?
Commitees are constituted for same reason explained by Humphrey in context 5o defence policy. In ours context govt needs commitees to avoid and delay spending pennies on defence so that pounds can be spent on populist subsidies.

Looks like we are going to be using GE-404 102/103 lower power engines from GE to deliver Tejas MK1A to IAF until fresh GE F-404 IN20 engines arrive.

Some more details here, it has slightly lower thrust with AB(78.7 vs 84kN).
Idea is to use them as a stopgap until we get the actual ones with which they will swap out.

No one is discussing the kaveri refinement with the help of safran,if they can promise optimised kaveri ,performance like ge f404 then it should be done ....give them the money ....and stop begging to us

Sure we can do it.Let me tell you something, folks, no one knows engines better than me. And I’ve seen some incredible engines, believe me. But what HAL doing with the Kaveri engine—it's absolutely amazing, truly fantastic work. A lot of people didn’t think it could be done, okay? They said, 'It’s too difficult, it’s too ambitious.' But guess what? HAL, they’re getting it right.Together with Safran, they’ve taken that engine to a whole new level of refinement. Tremendous progress. People are talking about it. It’s really impressive, folks. Very impressive. Nobody thought they could pull it off, but they’re doing it. And you know what, I have to say—this is the kind of technology we’re looking at. Not just making it, but making it better. And India? They’re doing it better. They’ve got incredible engineers, the best. I’ve seen it."

Doston! HAL Kaveri engine ke baare mein aap sab jaante hain na? Ek aisa engine jo paida toh ho gaya, lekin kabhi chal hi nahi saka! Aur kyun nahi chal saka? Kyunki sab mile huye hain ji!

1986 mein project shuru hua tha. Bola gaya tha, "Desh ke fighter jet Tejas ko apna engine milega!" Par 36 saal ho gaye, aur ab tak engine sirf drawing board aur testing stand par hi hai. ₹2,800 crore kharch kar diye, aur result? Ek engine jo fighter jet ke andar fit hone ke bajaye bahar hi baitha rehta hai!

Aur Modi ji, aap kaunsi duniya mein hain? Aapke raj mein bas speeches chalti hain, engines nahi! Aap ne "Atmanirbhar Bharat" bola tha na? Toh phir Russian aur French engines pe depend kyun hain ji? Sab mile huye hain! HAL, DRDO, aur aapke industrialist friends – sabki mili bhagat hai.

Aur ab toh sunne mein aa raha hai ki yeh engine drones mein lagane ki baat ho rahi hai. Matlab fighter jet ke liye banaya tha, aur ab toys ke saath khelna chahte hain! Yeh desh ke sapno ke saath mazaak ho raha hai ji. Main keh raha hoon, desh ka engine aage badhna chahiye, yeh project nahi.

Main Modi ji se poochhna chahta hoon: 30 saal mein ek engine nahi ban paya, iska jawab kaun dega? Aapke jumle? Aapki speeches? Ya phir naye slogans?

Doston, agar yeh engine aam aadmi ke hawale kar diya jaye, toh yeh 6 mahine mein chalne lagega. Kyon? Kyunki aam aadmi imaandaar hota hai! Yeh sab bade log bas loot macha rahe hain!

Desh ko fighter jet ka engine chahiye, Modi ji, jumla nahi!

Because no firm will keep prices fixed because your internal processes take 15 years.

Same bloody thing happened with the DARIN III engines from Honeywell. They waited for 9 freaking years for MoD and MoF to make up their minds and then updated the prices.

Farmers ke liye annually MSP par 200000 cr kharch hojaata hai. New engines? Pfft
