LCA TEJAS MK-I & MK-IA: News and Discussion

According to the Air Chief Marshal, the Tejas Mk1A is not fully ready yet. The initial batch of aircraft being delivered features improvements over the Tejas Mk1 but does not yet include all the enhancements initially planned for the Mk1A.

Can they elucidate what exactly the MK1A lacks now? So much of time for refinement and its still not upto standards?

Probably talking about Full operational clearance

If we were visionary enough we should have gone for M88-3,4 for MK1A and MK2 respectively and built on M88 again for AMCA. But now we are completely dependent on Americans for all our engines from Destroyers/Frigates to 5th gen jets !!
You can't biuld on m88.
The design architecture of 5th gen engines is completely different.
Tho you can learn "material science" based on that.

Well he's not inaccurate then!..

“I was promised that when I come here in February, 11 Tejas Mk1As would be ready. And not a single one is ready.”........“The aircraft that you flew, calling it Mk1A. It is not Mk1A. It cannot happen just by change of one software or by looks. When the weapons come and the capability comes, then it’s a Mk1A,” said the IAF chief.

IMO not a big deal if not all weapons are certified yet, given the engine delay. But if it had been the other way round - Mk1A delivery delayed by late weapons integration - would there have been calls to avoid using the integrator again as there have been?

I have read calls to switch to a Russian or French engine because of the F404 delay. IMO such calls are absurd.

Incidentally (not looking to have a go at HAL here) have HAL completed 11 as they are reported to have promised they would above?
