Modernisation of Indian Army Infantry

I think, one of the best ways to modernise infantry is to give every individual thermals.

Thread says modernization, but this pic shows exact opposite...is it a sarcastic post ?

How serious is the military? Not to mention they are yet to do anything about the impending carbine tender.

Doesn't mean much until mass ordered and standardised. Buying a few for PR won't help them irl.
frankly speaking, muh 5.56mm CQB carbine tender of some 4.5 lakh units to replace muh Sterling "9mm Carbine" makes no sense to me in terms of merit and bureaucratic L1 tender methodology it's following, 'specially in this year of 2025 AD

I mean consider this,
army units mostly involved in CQB ops like say RR are already using Kalashnikovs of different variants, more and more AKs are getting upgraded with FAB style kits and now we have AK-203i that comes with most stuff from factory itself,
and they do those CQBish things just fine,
then what's even need for a dedicated tender for 5.56mm CQB carbines when armed forces are shifting away from that calibre as they're supplementing to eventually replace INSASes with Kalashnikovs in 7.62x39mm already? and at closer ranges it doesn't make that much of a difference if a tango is struck with a 5.56mm or 7.62mm it will mostly get 'neutralised'

chalo maan bhi lete hai ki for some tactical reasons they want a 5.56mm carbine, then why are they running a tender with 15-some contestants when we already have X-95 flattop being screwdrivered by Adani-PLR who can easily make that large no.s. here? and we'd even benefit from faster induction as that series of weapons are already serving some high priority units so training toh whi rhegi sab...

"b..but saar it's bullpup le bad"... 😒 arey at least it's not fucking open bolt Sterling that still injures or kills our jawans by misfiring re...

the amount of desi (truly or screwdrivered aatmanirbhartaa waale, whatever) options we have for carbines here are
> MSMC / JVPC in 5.56x30mm
> Amogh in 5.56x30mm
> X-95 of course in 5.56x45mm
> some INSAS Excalibur MK1C shortened fork from Rifle Factory Ishapore in 5.56x45mm, heck I'd say very last variants of muh Excalibur rifles are just fine enough
> ARDE's recent 5.56mm Carbine, that two section receiver design from which Ugram rifle stemmed out in 7.62mm NATO
> SSSD M72 in 5.56x45mm, yeah just ask them to give colt commando-ish barrel length version
> Taurus Jindal ka Brazilian M4 copy in 5.56x45mm
> TriCa in 7.62x39mm
> Galil Ace 21 or 22 in 5.56x45mm, Galil Ace 31 or 32 in 7.62x39mm
> Adani PLR getting IWI Arad here?
> Some local partner bringing Caracal CAR816 here?
> Kalyani or someone's attempt to bring AUG A3 or Australian EF-88 / F-90 AUG variant here?
> Some desi company partnering to bring CZ Bren 2 here in 5.56x45mm, 7.62x39mm ?

and what not... 🤷‍♂️

Heck i remember Indo-Russian Rifles Ltd. presented desi AK-19 in 5.56x45mm for this tender and it got rejected immediately over some reasons 🤷‍♂️ and they dragged army to courts over it

so aisa toh nhi hai ki koi option hi nahi hai inke paas, bas sab babudumbing chal rhi hai - but as i said, in my opinion there's not an urgent need for some purpose built carbine in armed forces to strictly replace muh Sterlings, just use common sense and pick anything that works fine like ARDE 5.56mm.Carbine or AK203i and retire those Sterlings already 😒

and this carbine tender thing literally stemmed out from ARDE / OFB's failures of delivering an adoptable Carbine variant of INSAS around 90s when the rifle and G variants got inducted but carbine one got rejected over high noise and controllability issues 🤷‍♂️ - after that they forked Amogh and eventually MSMC/JVPC out of that line while also trying to woo the armed forces with some Kalantak "micro assault rifle" thing 🤷‍♂️ - that's why I'm also heavily suspicious over entire requirements for this tender, pata chala whi 90s era ki requirements hai isme kyounki tender hi us time se chalta aaya hai...like how they asked for a bayonet for SVD replacement sniper or DMR rifle (not entirely outrageous but pedantic as hell)
