Lets see, two different shades of camo on BDU and Helmet, olive green rig, bright neon shemagh, bright red lanyard, high vis flag patch and horrible slings. Uniformity in chaos you mean.
+Gleaming rifles that look like they’ve never been used

Not a shred of additional equipment between them- no spare mags, med kits, assault tools etc. I’d be surprised if they even have spare AA batteries for those sights I doubt any of them even know how to turn on

This is the best they can do for joint exercises says a lot

So this is as good as the IA infantry are going to get for the next decade plus, what do we reckon the average spend per soldier’s kit is? If you exclude the 203 rifle (that IA is hilariously overpaying for) the number has to be less than $300

The question you should be asking is which big-brained Afsar responsible for PR posted this image online or circulated it otherwise.

It is only natural that wumaos and Lahori swines would pick it up and post afterwards.
Big brain officers are posting these pics on their official handles- they clearly think this is peak performance

I’m still left wondering where the ‘modernisation’ has happened outside of maybe 4/5 divisions along the LOC in the last 50 years

But hey at least a few more of their kids get to be globe trotting upper class elites

And if that is an average Talib soldier, Pakis better pray pray pray!

Man they are making GOOD use of their U.S. toys!

They don't give a sht, Genrol mindset towards jawans is like this guy has said
And one repeated observation.. Most of these Indian Army infantry guys look too old and almost 40, in all photos.. when countries countries with abysmal birth rates like China, South korea and EU countries always feature young infantry soldiers in good shape..
Also its established that most Army wartime gallantry awards go to younger soldiers who have greater risk taking mindset and fitness to go with it.. But, genrols pooh pooh Agni veer..

If the armed forces want quality recruits, they should open stalls in top public universities across the nation. Forum only pooh poohs chapris. There's nothing wrong with a tour of duty on temporary commission. Agniveers who serve their terms become a trained reserve force for all intensions and purposes. If not outright in name. And increase the age barrier, 18-23 for enlisted, 25 max for officers is wasteful.

My fren here is trading extremely carefully so allow me for the controversial take.

It's very nice that Army have been this till date but in the future it can't continue to be an organisation whose core job is to provides employment to 2 million people.
Period

Just like ISRO's primary job is space exploration and BARC's nuclear research, Army's primary job is winning war with as little casualties as possible. Youths getting employment in this process shouldn't concern Army, it's just a byproduct of Army's mission. It's better to have 0.5 million personnel who are best in doing what they're supposed to do than having 2 million with skill issues.

Again, by someone competent I don't mean a graduate in computer science who can fluently speak english serving as a Jawan. It can be something as simple as knowing what's wrong with your "scope" and correcting it by yourself

The army values menials over thinkers (this is not an army exclusive problem, civilian sectors are also becoming like this). Evident by the recruitment process, training and equipment. In a country of a billion plus, it shouldn't be hard to find graduates and post graduates to fill the ranks. The institution recruits mediocrity and promotes mediocrity. Enlisted are treated like coolies who have to trek miles carrying heavy equipment. Institution takes pride in this, rather than arranging air transport. Or employing surveillance tech that minimizes the need for long range patrols on foot. The officer cadre receives decent training but becomes subjected to the trickled down babu culture perpetuated by senior officers. We have unarmored trucks and light armored buses ferrying troops through hot zones, PARA needs to trek 10 km through dense vegetation instead of having a 160th SOAR equivalent for taxi, then to get ambushed in the thick of it. We're still using mag fed BREN guns for MG nests ffs. We'd rather play cat and mouse chases through difficult terrain, instead of calling artillery in it's general vicinity. Even when the army is adopting a new uniform and a new camo pattern, they can't let go of the bright rank patches, lanyards and other stand-out accoutrements. Why wouldn't this be a jobs program ? chapris get recruited to become poorly trained and equipped enlisted. NDA/OTA graduates get to lead this shitshow of incompetency. Very few innovate, fewer get heard by the upper brass, and most of them succumb to elitism. Most officers can't be called visionaries (again not an army exclusive problem), they are very good at doing something a very specific way with a very specific mindset. Enlisted don't even know that red dot sights need batteries, how to stretch your opposite arm out to control recoil with thumb over bore. The lack of effort spared to train enlisted is one of the big reasons behind slow pace of modernization. "Oh enlisted are used to AK type rifles, lets go look for more AKs in the same caliber". "Why do soldiers need standard issue optics ? just use sight posts ?". "Lets keep on playing cat and mouse chases with insurgents in J&K for another few decades instead of making brutal examples out of said insurgents". "MREs ? don't be silly". If the Army was serious about warfighting, they would've downsized the forces and spent more on the individual soldier, slowly increasing intake as the defense budget goes up in the future. It is absolutely a jobs program.

Don't read this. It's all nonsense from a bloody civilian.
