Honestly Day 1 of Sindoor is filled with footprints of Topi Ji and MEA thinking.

I understand the rationale of only targeting terrorists from a global narrative & diplomacy POV. We wanted to portray that we are not the aggressors and instead merely exercising our right to respond to Pahalgam.

If ROE was to not fire on PAF no matter what then that is stupid. If ROE was not to fire first on PAF but if they fire or threaten then fire back and defend, this is understandable and practical.

If IAF wasn't carrying Meteors, if IAF decided to do that then I don't know what they were thinking and if the government enforced it then they are stupid. In case they were carrying Meteors and couldn't use it effectively, then IAF should use this as an opportunity to do a deep and honest in-house review to improve.

This was the first modern BVR large scale combat between 2 near peer airforces. If important combat lessons are learnt in this and IAF can improve even at cost of a few airframes then it should be worth it. Better having experienced this now than in a full fledged war. Since PAF and PLAAF are getting capability aligned, lessons learnt can be applied on both fronts.

Jane's is not your regular news media outlet. It is a purely defence oriented platform focusing on defence , intelligence , geo strategy , etc as opposed to geo politics , economics , financial markets , cultural & society issues , etc .

Therefore it operates in a very niche market for a highly sophisticated readership usually restricted to militaries , diplomatic corps , TTs, Academia etc & is a subscriber based platform. Further those subscriptions cost a bomb unaffordable to lay folk like you & me .

It's very rare for one to come across an article from Jane's in its full form which isn't behind a paywall.
